This Sunday morning we are on vacation in Orlando for the week leading up to First Steps to Success next weekend. We decided to come to Orlando a week early. We have rented a condo at the Wyndham Cypress Palms. We arrived yesterday and are settled in by now, and my wife did me the pleasure of getting up and cooking some breakfast for me. She is the best cook I know. As I type this there is the smell of bacon in the condo.

The weather outside is Sunny and 68 degrees, the high today will be 79 degrees. It’s a fitting end to what was a great week last week. I can’t tell you any one thing that made last week great it was a combination of new team members getting started, package sales, and just an over all satisfaction with the work that I get to do from home. I feel like I get to do something that makes a real difference in individual lives. I’m not meaninglessly punching some time clock just to make sure I get a paycheck. I do a work that I do make an above average wage for but people and businesses depend on me and this week just experiencing it at one point I felt almost euphoric. This week was Mary’s second week advertising. We are working on starting Bruce’s advertising next week. Terry, Sarah, and Robert all started their training this week. It must sound odd for someone to say their work makes them “euphoric” but I can’t think of a better word. At one point after several appointments back to back with new trainees starting I stopped leaned back in my office chair and just thought “This is amazing, I am so lucky to do what I do”.

Yesterday we took off and came to the Wyndham, here in Orlando we could have gotten this room for 199.00 for the week! Because I procrastinated and paid for it late we got the room for $370.00 for the week using our Coastal package. This is a gorgeous resort, with two pools, grills, and several family play areas. Carmen, is taking a shower and then we are going to start exploring a little bit. Our unit is fabulous, I was impressed the moment I walked in. The pictures online didn’t do it justice. We have a full kitchen, oversized dinette table (that’s where I’m typing now), full living room that can comfortably seat 6 people. King bed in the bedroom, jetted tub and full vanity in the bathroom separated from another sink and shower by a door. One of my favorite features is the fully screened in balcony off of the living room. This unit online goes for $126.00 a night and again we got the whole week for $370.00. We will probably be hitting up some theme parks later in the week but today we are going to relax, explore the resort, and maybe explore the town close to the resort. This is Mary from ON. Is it really all about the best compensation structure?

When you are looking into starting a business in a down economy it is important to understand how you are going to get paid. Compensation for you work is something you should understand right away from the start. Now if you are starting your own business from scratch that will definitely has it’s own challenges but you should understand how you are going to be paid. If you are starting a franchise or working with anyone of a number of reputable online business plans then you must understand how you will compensated for your work as you start building your business. There are a some things that you at least want to be aware of before you start your search.

First, be wary of compensation plans that tout phrases like “7 ways to get paid” The number seven isn’t a magical number I’m just using it for an example. Often times you will see companies online that will tout multiple income streams and how they will pay you 7 different ways or 6 different ways or 8 different ways for the work that you do once. Well more often than not what this really means is there are 7 ways the company can prevent you from getting paid for your work. Let’s say for example that a company says they pay out 50% of their profits to their distributors. This is probably reasonable and fair. However, it’s not as simple as just bring in customer A and earn X. Instead it will be bring in customer A and earn 25%. Another 5% will be a training bonus that may go to you or someone else. Another 10% could go into some sort of a monthly distributor fund. Another 10% could go into a car bonus or housing bonus. Now I am not saying this is necessarily a bad thing. You will want to recognize that to take advantage of the full compensation that the company makes available you will probably have to do more than just bring in a few customers.

Also be aware of the disadvantage of the multiple levels of compensation that many home based businesses offer. I could go on and on this one but I probably should save this for Part B. of this post. Stay tuned.

Tip 3: Starting a business in a down economy

This is the third blog post and tip number 3 for starting a business in a down economy. In the first tip we discussed how to avoid a common mistake when choosing a business to start. In tip 2, we talked about what industries to look for in a down economy. Today we are going to expand alittle further into starting a business in a down economy and how to succeed with it. So here is tip number 3, recognize that you have a market advantage over other businesses in a down economy. In theory, the longer someone has been in business the more money they should have saved up and the more finanically secure their business should be. However, since most of us don't have functioning crystal balls a common mistake is that businesses over leverage themselves out of impatience to grow quickly. During an economic slow down, these businesses are often crushed by the weight of there own success. It's the same reason during the housing boom so many growing real estate investment companies fell. They grew buy taking out large mortgages to buy cashflow properties but when the economy starting going down hill many of their tenants could no longer afford rent. This created a chain effect, the real estate companies started losing tenants and then started losing rental income. With limited cashflow the real estate companies couldn't afford the notes on their properties and then they started listing properties for sale and when the properties didn't sale they started forclosing. Many of these companies ended up in bankruptcy and are no longer in business today. However, there are always two sides to every coin. During this same time period there were other Real Estate companies that were probably smaller but didn't have nearly as much debt. They also started losing tenants when the economy started crashing but they had a stronger cashflow because they had less debt. This puts the smaller company in a position with loss of cashflow but not getting squeezed by their huge debt payments. These companies have been able to weather the economic storm and are probably buying new properties at discounted prices while their larger competitor has been put out of business.

This was a very simple example of how a more established company could be disadvantaged during economic slow downs. Another example is during the "good times" most companies do not pay attention to their overhead as careful as they should. They often take on alot of employees and expand their overhead. If they do not shrink this overhead fast enough during economic slow downs, and most don't, then their finances will become an anchor weighing them down during economic turmoil. This works in your favor and you want to recognize that. Starting out with low or no overhead in a down economy makes you flexible to changing market conditions and allows you to profit easier than the company with high overhead. This is extremely important to you when starting a business in a down economy.

Tip 2: How to start a business in a down economy

Today I am going to discuss how to start a business in a down economy. This is the second tip, the first tip was given in the previous post. So lets just started

Tip #2 Choose the industry you are going to work in carefully. I don't specifically tell you what industry to choose because you have alot of options available to you. I also am not going to tell you what industry not to work in. Instead I am going to give you some guidelines to follow when looking for an industry to start a business during these tough economic times.

I would recommend that first you look at industries that don't just do well in poor economic times but instead look for industries that usually do fairly well in good times and bad times. For example take nutrition and wellness that is a very large industry that is very consistent and has always at least held it's own during good economic cycles and bad economic cycles. It's not a sexy industry, it never makes big news headlines and therefore most people are shocked when they find out that it's a billion dollar industry. It makes since though. During good economic times people want to lose weight and get healthy, during bad economic times, people still need to lose weight and get healthy. So if you wanted to start say a health foods store and that was something you had an interest in. You would have as good of a chance at making that succeed in a good economy and/or a down economy. Meaning the economy would play less of a factor in that type of business compared to other businesses.

If you are learning how to start a business in a down economy, then you want to consider industries that are resilient historically. For example take the industry of travel. It's the largest industry in the world at over 7 trillion dollars world wide. During good times people want to celebrate and take a great vacation. During crappy economic times they want to take a break from it all and take a vacation. It's a perfect contradiction in our human psyche however, it's one that you can profit from. Travel is more of a "sexy" industry but you have to be strategic in the type of business you choose. For example, it may not be a good idea to just go open a travel agency in a world with travelocity and expedia. However, if you have a business that offers a unique marketing strategy and gives you an advantage over expedia then you may have a winner. I know alot about this because our business is in travel and we have a unique strategy where we do not compete with travelocity or expedia or any other traditional travel outlet. In fact this year 2011 in a "down economy" we are having our most profitable year ever.

When choosing an industry to start your business avoid industries that have been part of a bubble. For example real estate, if you are going to start a business in real estate today then you better know what you are doing. Ironically enough prior to this last economic down turn, real estate would have been an industry I would have look upon favorably in past economic cycles. Real estate historically had done well in good and bad economies however, during this last economic cycle a bubble was created in real estate. If you start a business in any industry that has "bubbled and burst" then you are going to be fighting an up hill battle. Sure it could be done, I am just saying the odds are stacked against you.

How to start a home business in a down economy

Here are some simple tips for starting a home business in a down economy. First you must realize that your personal economy is not the same as everyone else's bad economy. Therefore, your business economy is not the same as everyone else's business economy. You and your new business venture are a small part of a much larger picture. In that big picture some people are doing worse and some people are doing better. You can be one of those people that are doing better than most.

Some business are doing bad in a down economy and some businesses are doing good. Like our business this year. We are having our very best year EVER in 7 and a half years. Below are a few simple tips to help you succeed in starting a home business in a down economy.

Tip 1: Don't start a business out of a hobby. There is this prevailing wisdom out there that says find something that you love and you will never have to work again. Which I believe is true but most people look at it all wrong. Most people take that to believe let me find my favorite hobby and see how I can make it profitable? That usually has disastrous consequences. First, most hobbies are not able to be turned into a successful business model. Second, if they can become a successful business they become work and are NO fun after a while. "Find something that you love to do and you will never have to work again" obviously doesn't mean that you are going to be able to quit working. It just simply means you will like the work that you are doing. So when you are starting a business in a down economy this is paramount. Wrap your purpose in work around what you love.

You can do this with just about any business model. If you are starting a business on basket weaving and you don't particularly like basket weaving you just happen to be good at it. Then you realize that by building this business using a skill that you have learned you are able to spend more time on the "hobby" that you are passionate about. If you are like me and you like fishing then by making basket weaving successful it gives you more time to go fishing. If you are the type of person that is passion about charity work and you like to donate money or time to feeding the homeless for example. By building your basket weaving business you have more free time and more money to donate to the homeless. When you realize that it's the business that is giving you these options naturally you will create a passion for your basket weaving business. It's important to make these links with whatever you start because just like in a "job" there will be days when you may not want to go in and basket weave, but then you have the reminder what basket weaving will allow you to do that having a "job" never would. It increases your determination to make that new business work even in a down economy.

Why start a business from home?

Well most people look into working from for very obvious reason. Usually they are looking for a way to make some extra money. Working from home, is one of the very few ways you can do that. While still maintaining a full time job and meeting your obligations with your spouse and kids. When you consider that starting a business from home can be the simplest way to start a business, it can offer some of the highest profits, and can allow for exponential growth oppurtunities as well as passive income streams. When you consider all of that you may wonder, why would anyone consider starting any other type of business?

When starting a business from home, you are often able to follow a business plan/marketing plan that others have been successful with. Each industry and company in the industry, often times has found ways marketing and advertising that work. All you have to do is simply follow a path that someone else has set out for you. You don't have create large and risky advertising campaigns, you don't have to build brands, no need to worry about having a crack legal team, no research and development team is need. Usually it's best to partner with other companies that have already figured that out. So you are marketing products developed by another company, using their advertising strategies, often getting their training for free or low cost. You can often get started at most for a few thousand dollars but have a real shot at earning 10s of 1000s of dollars even 100s of 1000s of dollars.

Now throw in the fact that often times companies will pay you royalties to maintain customers or even large training bonuses for helping them to expand their distribution by helping to introduce and train new people who want to market a company's products. Therefore you can expand your income exponentially and passively. Take a vacation, go to your kids football game, take time off and volunteer, and you will still have the potential of earning revenue.

I can not tell you why, everyone doesn't start a business from home. But I can definitely tell you why they should. It creates an amazing lifestyle. Even a part time business can give you financial piece of mind and security. A part time business can, give you extra money for retirement, for vacationing, for your kids college fund, and maybe parlay that into a full time income if you want. As a full time income or primary income (primary income is a better term because even now I'm not full time) you can break the chains of that 9 to 5. No traffic or highway commute. No asking premission to take time off when the kids are sick. No asking premission to take vacation. You can travel, work from anywhere and still build a great income. Right this very moment, I am writing this blog from my laptop and my back patio, one of my favorite places to work. So far this month I have earned $7,000 with possibly another $9,000 coming before the end of the month. I'm not the only one, I have recently heard about others although I don't have any way to verify this. I can't see what money they deposit in their account, but I have heard them report on conference calls, at live training events the income they have earned recently. Here is a couple of examples.

Zac Mulder, in the past 5 weeks at 19 years old earned $10,300

Meggan Pratt, stay at home wife, earned $14,000 in the last 30 days

Wade Guftasen (I'm not sure I have his name spelled right) earned $3,200 in the last month after getting laid off from a job he had for 20 years.

Starting a business from home, is about freedom, it's about lifestyle, it's about security. I can't for the life of me figure out why, especially now in today's current uncertain economic environment, everyone doesn't have at least a part time business from home.

The things that keep you awake

Or I should say the things that can wake you up at night. I woke up this am at 5:00. I don't usually get up till 8 am. I have not been back to sleep instead I have been wide awake. I have alot of stuff on my mind that excites me and I don't know exactly what to do about it. As I reflect back on my life, I wasn't born super intelligent, I wasn't born into wealth or a family that understood laws of money. In alot of ways, the deck was stack against me. However, some how I have managed to rise up, go to college and get a degree (2 year nursing degree that took me 3 attempts because I flunked out twice), start several businesses, become totally debt free, create an income of $100,000 plus per year and own assets that are kicking out cash flow to me each and every month.

Now this doesn't make me special in anyway at all. In fact, I think most people if they followed my plan to success would find it to be strikingly simple. Therefore, I have often considered writing a book, creating some sort of course that can give a step by step plan to get out of debt, start a business, or at least create some passive streams of income once you are out of debt which will lead to financial freedom for anyone who was following this plan. I just haven't known how to do this. I have tossed around a couple of different ideas. I think I have settled on creating an email based course combined with audio and some video. The first part of this and probably the most important part is all about getting out of debt, later will lead to increasing your income, and into creating massive passive income through multiple streams of income.

All of this isn't my organic material as if somehow I have broken the code to financial success single handily. There are various places and resources as well as trainings that have helped me along the way. Through this course, I will give you that information and those resources. In parts I will simply commentate the participants through other trainings and in parts I will be training on areas that I have a strong knowledge on. Make no mistake about it though. I would prefer to send you to the source of the information that I learned from so that you can learn from it yourself first hand. My intention is not to always be the teacher, that would simply make me a replicator and I would fear watering down information. I want you to learn directly from the source as much as possible.

I don't know how long it will take me to put this together and I don't know exactly where to start so I am going to just start somewhere and give it my best shot. This is a passion of mine, but it is by no means my primary business nor do I want it to be. Therefore, I will focus on creating this course (don't know what to call it yet) in my extracurricular time. I just know that I have to start this sooner than later. With economic turmoil abound in the land. There are more people than ever that are desperate and ready to take control their finances, and I know that I can direct them down a path to do that, without question. This has created an urgency in me.

I told you yesterday I would post the video as soon as I had it for our company's trainer Dani Johnson. Here it is, today Dani was interviewed on Fox News in regards to her new book. In this interview you will not see the Dani Johnson I have learned from over the years. You will see a different side of her. She has been doing trainings for years teaching us how to succeed working for ourselves from home. She gives specific no frills strategies that have allowed me to go from a broke, Registered Nurse, with no business experience; to owning my own travel business and in a down economy when most people are failing I am earning over $100,000 per year.

The day the dollar dies...

So I'm sitting at home right now this a raging sunburn. We got home a couple of hours ago from our mountain getaway. We had a great time. Yesterday we went tubing that was a great time. It was the first time I have ever done that. I would highly recommend it if you have not done it and you like the outdoors. However, that is also where I picked up this souvenir sunburn, which I could do without. I came home and in mail I had an update from one of my investment researchers. I hire these guys to do various research for me. The title of the research was the day the dollar dies. Having known nothing about economics a few years ago I have really come up to speed fast. It is more clear to me than ever that we are headed toward very very rocky times for those of us in the good Ol US of A.

Our government for the past decade has been quickly devaluing our currency through their policies. So the question remains how bad is it going to get and how do you take advantage of the looming dollar crisis. I have been positioning myself just for that. I have started investing in mining stocks as a hedge. This is really a double hedge. The companies I am investing in are undervalued companies already that happen to be in the Gold mining sector. So my money grows one of two ways. When the market realizes their value and the appreciate in stock price. Also as the dollar weakens gold prices go up and consequently over time the share price of gold and silver mining companies go up as well.

Now historically this sector has been very volatile. However, I don't know of a better long term investing strategy during uncertain economic times such as the ones we are approaching over the next 5 years or so. You can follow along with my gold mining investing. With the government ending what is known as Quantitative Easing 2, I expect prices to drop over the next 2 to 3 months in this sector which will present more buying opportunities.

Vacation in Blue Ridge, GA

Well we have rented a luxury home up in Blue Ridge, GA. It's beautiful up here. Right now I'm blogging from the deck overlooking the Toccoa River. A river we will be tubing down alittle later this morning. I have been meaning to make a blog post sooner but we have been having so much fun I have just now decided to stop long enough to put my thoughts on the digital world. I have been posting pictures like crazy on Facebook. If we are not friends on facebook make sure you connect with me, friend me on facebook.

This home is gorgeous and well designed. It's 5 bedrooms and 4 baths, about 5000 square feet with a private out door pool area (this is one of my favorite features). This outdoor area has a full bathroom with shower. The whole thing is bricked in, with underground pool and water slide, my niece, nephew, and mother in law have enjoyed the slide. It has an oversided fireplace, which has been enjoyable with some nice cigars in the evening. There is a very large gazebo area which could comfortably hold 10 people eating. There is a full outdoor kitchen with microwave, sink, fridge, bar, cabinet space. Also you can't forget the grill. We will be making some beer butt chickens on that grill later tonight.

Overall it has been a great time to celebrate a holiday to remember those men and women who have died so that I could live the life I live and vacation the way that we vacation. One of the more exciting parts of this vacation is that it has been a working vacation for me. Meaning that I have kept a few appts and attended a few conference calls. I may have to make this blog private

I have seriously considered making this blog private. I have never intentionally did any real marketing or SEO to make this blog rank well in search engines. From the very beginning it really has been a collection of my personal thoughts, ramblings, and a bit of a journal about what is going on with my life and business ventures. I have considered making this blog private just so my friends could read it but not necessarily so the general public could easily browse accross it. I am involved with a couple different business ventures with my primary business venture being in the travel industry.

I don't want my various potential clients coming accross this blog which has severed more like a journal than anything else as a result I could potential credibility if they read any one post out of context not understanding what the primary purpose of this blog is. However, for my friends and family who have been literally my best supporters. I will keep writing here and updating on whats going on with my life. My focus in life has been about wanting to help as many people as I can to take control of there finances. In today's economic environment I am have been feeling an urgency to really start getting more of this info out that I am learning and using daily to take advantage of this current environment. If you are making the right choices there are plenty of oppurtunities available right now.

I will keep writing and posting. I will probably eventually take this blog private or at least make it more obscure in the search engines. I want those reading this to enjoy learning with me and to let's increase our profitablity together!

The College Conspiracy

I have a friend of mine who knows that I own my own marketing company and that I work from home. He recently sent me a link via Facebook. It was very interesting to say the least. The title of the video is "The College Conspiracy". You can look it up on Youtube, but what a fascinating watch. There are plenty of points to disagree with on the video but the main point was that college degrees are too expensive to get these days and are not nearly as valuable as they once were.

The video did a good job of explaining really my opinions on this topic. I have long told my wife I would never encourage our children to get a college degree unless they decided to go into a career field that absolutely required it. I would love for my kids to go into business. It could be one of my business ventures or one of their own. My focus would be to find out the kind of life they would want for themselves and their families and then finding a career path that could lead them to that kind of lifestyle.

I understand that not everyone wants to own a business, and my kids may not want to own a business either. That will be fine with me as long as they are choosing a career field that will allow them to live the type of lifestyle they will want to have for themselves. Before I started working from home, I was a Registered Nurse. No one asked me in Nursing school, "Do you know the kind of life most nurses live? Is that the life you want to live for yourself?"

If I had been asked that, I have no idea what I would have said. I had never really contemplated it. In some ways starting an online business, happened almost by accident for me. However, today I live a lifestyle above what would be possible on a Nursing salary. For example, I am debt free today. Yet I have several causes that I am passionate about and like to donate money to. I like to travel and vacation and have been able to travel to places all over the world. I travel often, at least about 6 weeks out of the year. I enjoy fine dining and taking my bride to resteraunts like Ruth's Chris. This is just a couple of examples. Sure I know of nurses that travel alot, but not up to 6 weeks a year for pleasure. I know nurses who eat at nice resteraunts but they aren't debt free. Personally, I dont' know of anyone who is a nurse and has the ability to create a lifestyle for themself that I have been able to create from my online business.

More importantly I don't know of any nurse whose job will allow them to do work once but get paid on it over and over again through passive income streams or royalty incomes. However, since starting an online business that is exactly what I have been able to create. To top it all off it costs me less in time and money to start and profit from than most people spend getting a four year degree!

Email to my Father In Law

I have probably the best Father In Law on the planet. Robert Uyttenhove, is a great man. However, he does love to forward me email on a daily basis. Truthfully I don't usually read them however, this morning I did. Below is my response to this well intended forward I got from him. I think the reason stuff like this even gets forward is just because, as average Americans we don't totally understand the dynamics of some political issues and then our Politicians use that against us when creating or writing public policy.

My response to his email (you can read the email below my response)

This is good but its important to understand both sides of this coin. The argument to buy American to save jobs is a noble argument. But the greater issue has to do with why jobs aren't being produced here or why are those companies of which many are American, owned move facilities overseas. It ususally is not made off of the hourly wage difference. Take the CEO of Intel who recently said.

I would love to open a new manufacturing facility in California but it will cost us about $1 Billion dollars more to be located in California. That is not because of workers wage that is just because of higher government fees and taxes on our business model in the US. The Billion dollar cost will have to be paid before that new plant produces one Intel product.

So the solution. In order to sale more products in the USA companies need to be more competative. Our government needs to allow these companies to be more competative. However as Americans we demand for such services as 113 weeks of unemployement, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Our government can't afford this, there isn't enough tax revenue coming in so they raise taxes on business because its easier to do than raise the tax on the people on main street. Then companies do one of two things they raise prices now to help compensate, but the unintended consequence is products from outside of the US are cheaper and therefore many American buy on price. Or they move overseas so they can operate on a more even playing field marketing to the US as their other International competitors.

Simply paying more for American although noble as it sounds is NOT the solution. That just allows the government to continue to raise taxes and fees on businesses. Businesses then raise their prices even further to compensate for this.

Instead if government allowed for businesses to grow and didn't not charge as much in business taxes and fees. Businesses can stay right here in the good ol USA, sale their products at a competative price with overseas competitors. Create more jobs, more jobs create more revenue in the form of taxes which will increase the governments income to better afford things like Unemployeement insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

ALL items from a typical, middleclass family's home, that were not made in the USA.

There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they are going to show truckloads

difference in price etc. It was interesting that Diane said that if every American spent just $64 (more than normal) on USA

made items this year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs.

TAKES FOREVER JUST TO BUY FOOD AND DO LABEL READING ! !

Are we Americans as dumb as we appear --- or --- is it that we just do not think? While the Chinese, knowingly and

intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets.

Yet 70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.

Well, duh..why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges?

SIMPLY DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA!!

Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China' or 'PRC' (and that now includes

Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese

products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without.

Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter

is just an example, the point is do not wait for the government to act.

Just go ahead and assume control on your own.

THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade

imbalance resolved in our favor...fast!!

The downside? Some American businesses will feel a temporary pinch from having foreign stockpiles of inventory.

Wahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

The solution? Let's give them fair warning and send our own message. Most of the people who have been reading about this

matter are planning on implementing this on March. 4th and continue it until April.

4th That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports.

Then they will at least have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it.

Remember, March. 4th to April. 4th

START NOW.

Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted.

If we can't live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET!

I'm almost a millionaire with Coastal Travel!

DFIlive.com, continues to grow and I won my DFI Award Ring. I can't thank God enough for placing me in this business. Since my wife and I become totally debt free the end of last year. I now can see how fast we are saving and investing money. It's utterly mind blowing. At this pace without business growing anymore we should have a million dollar net worth (not including business assests) in 5 years. However, with just alittle improvement in business we could achieve that in as little as 3 years.

Hello Mike,

I appreciate your response. You are right in that it is a business and all business require work. However, let me reference a brief story from my grandfather in late 2004. Just a few months after me starting with Coastal.

My grandfather had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and I knew that this could lead to his death. While he was still relatively healthy one Wednesday morning I was visiting him at his house. Now a little background on my grand father. He was a self made business man. He started out when he married my grandmother they had dirt floors. He was a manual laborer on a farm, eventually got an entry level position with Mayflower moving company. Moved his way up to clerk with Mayflower and always saved money. One day he saw a mom and pop moving company called Faircloth moving company and he bought it. He worked that company for several years until he retired in his fifties but then he started another business later.

On my visit I thought it was time to learn from my granfather's wisdom knowing he may not be able to share that with me much longer. Being a Cancer Nurse prior to my Coastal career I knew patients always had alot of wisdom to share if you asked and listened. So that is what I decided to do. Here is that conversation as best as I can remember.

Jackie: Papa, if you would tell me anything about business that you feel I should know what would it be.

He contemplated as if he knew this was a serious question and he wanted to give a good response.

Papa: I can tell you two things. First find a business that pays you the most for your efforts and don't feel guilty about how much money other people DON'T make.

Jackie: What do you mean?

Papa: Well let me give you an example. Jackie, you know me and your grandma started out very poor. I remember thinking life would never be any different for us. Back then I just wanted to land a decent job, so I got that job at Mayflower and I was proud of that. I learned that business inside and out. So one day I saw a moving company for sale in the paper and I decided to use my saving and buy it. That was in the 60s and we thought we really had something. We brought in gross revenues of $300,000 a year but would only profit about $30,000 which was still good money back then but it was incredibly hard work. I was never home and me and one of my sons were driving all over the country moving people and businesses. You were always paying out far more than you could ever keep. It felt crazy but it was all I knew and I just assumed that is how business was. Then when I was in my early fifties I told your grandma we had plenty of money in savings and I was out of the moving business so I retired. Now this is the lesson I want you to learn Jackie.

One day I was bored of being at home, I saw a small convience store for sale out in Dudley. I had never ran a convienent store and knew nothing about it but figured if I broke even at least it would give me something to do each day. It was cheap so I bought it. Jackie, I worked a lot of hours at that convienent store. I loved every minute of it. I had the men that would come in the morning and talk with me and then I had the men in the evening that would come in, it was like people were always visiting me. I worked alot of hours there but it was very easy work. Jackie, I was shocked at how much money you could make in the convienent store business. If I would have known how much money you could make for the effort that you put in, I would have owned a convienent store my entire life!

alittle nervous to ask what I was thinking but I had to know

Jackie: Well Papa, how much money did you make?

Papa: (with his eyebrows raised) Jackie in the late 70s and 80s I did an average net profit of $108,000 a year and never worked even close to what I did with the moving business. All businesses are NOT created equal. Find the one that will pay you the most and work it hard. This new thing you are doing from home it sounds like that could be a good business. (he was talking about Coastal, I had shared alittle of it with him and some of the money I was starting to make).

I had to go back to his second piece of advice

Jackie: Papa you said, also something about never feel bad about how much money someone else is NOT making what did you mean by that?

Papa: I'll give you a good example. In the convienent store business, I did put in long hours 60 sometimes 70 a week but I loved every minute of it. I was also beginning to feel like I was getting rich. I have always lived pretty modest and I had plenty of money. However, I started to feel guilty about my bookkeeper and my stock guy. I had only one main employee he was a great guy, and I only paid him $10,000 a year back then. I had a bookkeeper and I paid her about $7 an hour back then. I went through a time where I thought I should be paying them more. They had needs in their lives, I heard them complain about not having money and I was making plenty of it. Jackie, I thought more about that. I asked myself what would really change for them if I paid them more money. Would they work any harder? Would they be more efficient? Would that solve their financial problems?

Then I realized, both of the people were better off than I was when I started my young adult life. What is keeping them from doing more with what they got? How come my bookkeeper doesn't grow her business? Both of these people had options in their life that was better than me just giving them more money. More money would not solve their problems. Jackie, you can not feel guilty nor is it your responsibility to look out for the well being of people who make choices not to do more with what is already in front of them. But you need to find a business that will pay you the most for the effort that you put in.

All businesses are NOT created equal....

(My grandfather did eventually pass away full of dignity as an honorable patriach. I wish he could see me now. More importantly I wish he could see people like Stacy in NC, Rob and Meggan in Ontario, Andrea in TX, Tara and Gavin in Ontario, Stephen in FL, Selene in FL, Bob in WA, and so many more that have successful businesses today mainly because of the advice that he gave me and I have followed it whole heartedly. )

Who is Dani Johnson?

Dani Johnson, is America's favorite Secret Millionaire. That is how most people will know here anyway. However, I found out about her in the fall of 2005, before Dani Johnson become the Secret Millionaire. Back then she was a sought after business coach. I was first made aware of her at a time in my life when I had started a small business out of my house. I was working with a marketing company as an independent rep. I didn't know what I was doing and had never worked for myself before. At the time I had a full time job as a Registered Nurse. I loved nursing, and breaking the stereotypes of men in the nursing field. But, I was in DEBT, and wanted control of my life back. Therefore I found a position available to establish myself as a marketing rep for a travel company. I had heard this company had a track record of helping their reps earn as much as $100,000 per year while only working part time. So I got invested and went to work. It was not long after that, I was told about Dani Johnson (the Secret Millionaire). I went to her website and heard her story. She had went from $2.03 to her name homeless to earning over $1 million dollars in two years all starting from a payphone booth. I had been in business only for a couple of months when I heard about her. I had made alittle money but not nearly what I was wanting to earn.

I hopped on a plane and flew to Los Angeles to see Dani Johnson long before she was the Secret Millionaire on ABC. That was in September of 2005. After applying the principles in that training seminar I generated $15,000 in my first 30 days. It took me 5 or 6 months to make that as an RN. Get DEBT FREE in 2011

I hope you have had a great Christmas! We just got home to Atlanta, after visiting family in North Carolina for the holidays. On the way home, I was thinking about this past year and what we have been able to accomplish with our Coastal business. For starters as of this month we are 100% DEBT FREE, which was my New Year's resolution this year!

This made me think about all of the people who have that same New Year's Resolution for 2011. That lead me to create my New Year's Resolution for 2011. I want to see how many people I can personally help become 100% Debt Free in 2011. What have I been up to lately...

I haven't updated my blog lately and there has been no particular reason for not updating it. At times I feel like I have nothing to add but this morning just reflecting on my last couple of blog posts I realized there are several things that I can at least update on.

Well business does continue to do well over all. Decide Freedom International continues to grow which is obvious by our conference call participation. Also D.F.I started a team site which looks great. You can check it out for your self at http://www.dfiteam.com/. In the past couple of months we had our first DFI ring winner, Mrs. Cadie Kalmes. Mrs. Kalmes, was the first person to bring in 30 new clients/members into her Coastal Travel business with DFI since the launch of the DFI Ring promotion. You can see a picture of that ring here >> http://www.dfiring.com/. I have almost won mine and would love to be the first male in our company to achieve that.

Also in my personal business I have joined together with a group of individuals all building their Coastal businesses together. We have started working together out of a virtual office (chat room), in the evenings. We all made a 3 month commitment to invest in advertising and really ramp up our businesses from Oct through December. Although we are in our first month, this has been a fun experiment and it's looking like we are definately getting the results we were hoping to get. I was excited to do this because I'm convinced that we haven't even seen a very small portion of what can be accomplished with Coastal Travel. I believe that we can hit annual incomes of $250,000 to $500,000 a year. I say that because I know that I have been able to earn $100,000 a year and be comfortable working a part time and some times inconsistent schedule. Over the next year or two I expect to prove this hypothesis.

On a more personal financial note. I have been doing some more research and investing in the Forex markets. This is something I rarely discuss but I will say this. I am extremely excited aboout what has started to be accomplished in my portfolio. Even though, I'm in the early stages it is very exciting. When you combine the level of returns I may be able to achieve with the free cashflow from a Coastal Travel business. It's an incredible combination.

This is Sunday afternoon and I'm on my back patio with our Yorkie named Mia. She is curiously watching the neighbors as the breeze blow by on this wonderfully peaceful day. Sunday is always a restful day for me so I'm going to sign off for a bit. I'm looking forward to Monday as usual it's a day of new oppurtunity. I consider it a great privledge to work from home. was when it was first delivered in 1940. Though it was written for life insurance
professionals, it's message is equally well suited to anyone in the sales profession, or
anyone in any field of endeavor who seeks success in their professional, personal or
spiritual lives.

This inspiring message by Mr. Gray is one of the most timeless pieces of life insurance
literature. It first appeared as a major address at the 1940 NALU (National Association of
Life Underwriters) annual convention in Philadelphia and has been available to
association members in pamphlet form ever since. Although our author has passed away,
his words of wisdom and moving philosophy --- so manifest in "The Common
Denominator of Success" --- are part of the current life insurance scene and have real
meaning for today's professional life underwriter. Mr. Gray was an official of the
Prudential Insurance Company of America and had 30 years of continuous experience
both as an agent in the field and as a promoter and instructor in sales development. He
was known throughout the country as a writer and speaker on life insurance subjects.

Several years ago I was brought face to face with the very disturbing realization that I
was trying to supervise and direct the efforts of a large number of men who were trying
to achieve success, without knowing myself what the secret of success really was. And
that, naturally, brought me face to face with the further realization that regardless of what
other knowledge I might have brought to my job, I was definitely lacking in the most
important knowledge of all.
Of course, like most of us, I had been brought up on the popular belief that the secret of
success is hard work, but I had seen so many men work hard without succeeding and so
many men succeed without working hard that I had become convinced that hard work
was not the real secret even though in most cases it might be one of the requirements.
And so I set out on a voyage of discovery which carried me through biographies and
autobiographies and all sorts of dissertations on success and the lives of successful men
until I finally reached a point at which I realized that the secret I was trying to discover
lay not only in what men did, but also in what made them do it.

I realized further that the secret for which I was searching must not only apply to every
definition of success, but since it must apply to everyone to whom it was offered, it must
also apply to everyone who had ever been successful. In short, I was looking for the
common denominator of success.

And because that is exactly what I was looking for, that is exactly what I found.
But this common denominator of success is so big, so powerful, and so vitally important
to your future and mine that I'm not going to make a speech about it. I'm just going to
"lay it on the line" in words of one syllable, so simple that everyone can understand them.
The common denominator of success --- the secret of success of every man who has ever
been successful --- lies in the fact that he formed the habit of doing things that failures
don't like to do.

It's just as true as it sounds and it's just as simple as it seems. You can hold it up to the
light, you can put it to the acid test, and you can kick it around until it's worn out, but
when you are all through with it, it will still be the common denominator of success,
whether you like it or not.

It will still explain why men have come into this business of ours with every apparent
qualification for success and given us our most disappointing failures, while others have
come in and achieved outstanding success in spite of many obvious and discouraging
handicaps. And since it will also explain your future, it would seem to be a mighty good
idea for you to use it in determining just what sort of a future you are going to have. In
other words, let's take this big, all-embracing secret and boil it down to fit the individual
you.

If the secret of success lies in forming the habit of doing things that failures don't like to
do, let's start the boiling-down process by determining what are the things that failures
don't like to do. The things that failures don't like to do are the very things that you and I
and other human beings, including successful men, naturally don't like to do. In other
words, we've got to realize right from the start that success is something which is
achieved by the minority of men, and is therefore unnatural and not to be achieved by
following our natural likes and dislikes nor by being guided by our natural preferences
and prejudices.

The things that failures don't like to do, in general, are too obvious for us to discuss them
here, and so, since our success is to be achieved in the sale of life insurance, let us move
on to a discussion of the things that we as life insurance men don't like to do. Here, too,
the things we don't like to do are too many to permit specific discussion, but I think they
can all be disposed of by saying that they all emanate from one basic dislike peculiar to
our type of selling. We don't like to call on people who don't want to see us and talk to
them about something they don't want to talk about. Any reluctance to follow a definite
prospecting program, to use prepared sales talks, to organize time and to organize effort
are all caused by this one basic dislike.

Perhaps you have wondered what is behind this peculiar lack of welcome on the part of
our prospective buyers. Isn't it due to the fact that our prospects are human too? And isn't
it true that the average human being is not big enough to buy life insurance of his own
accord and is therefore prone to escape our efforts to make him bigger or persuade him to
do something he doesn't want to do by striking at the most important weakness we
possess: namely, our desire to be appreciated? Perhaps you have been discouraged by a
feeling that you were born subject to certain dislikes peculiar to you, with which the
successful men in our business are not afflicted.

Perhaps you have wondered why it is that our biggest producers seem to like to do the
things that you don't like to do.

They don't! And I think this is the most encouraging statement I have ever offered to a
group of life insurance salesmen.

But if they don't like to do these things, then why do they do them? Because by doing the
things they don't like to do, they can accomplish the things they want to accomplish.
Successful men are influenced by the desire for pleasing results. Failures are influenced
by the desire for pleasing methods and are inclined to be satisfied with such results as can
be obtained by doing things they like to do.

Why are successful men able to do things they don't like to do while failures are not?
Because successful men have a purpose strong enough to make them form the habit of
doing things they don't like to do in order to accomplish the purpose they want to
accomplish.

Sometimes even our best producers get into a slump. When a man goes into a slump, it
simply means that he has reached a point at which, for the time being, the things he
doesn't like to do have become more important than his reasons for doing them. And may
I pause to suggest to you managers and general agents that when one of your good
producers goes into a slump, the less you talk about his production and the more you talk
about his purpose, the sooner you will pull him out of his slump?

Many men with whom I have discussed this common denominator of success have said at
this point, "But I have a family to support and I have to have a living for my family and
myself. Isn't that enough of a purpose?"

No, it isn't. It isn't a sufficiently strong purpose to make you form the habit of doing the
things you don't like to do for the very simple reasons that it is easier to adjust ourselves
to the hardships of a poor living than it is to adjust ourselves to the hardships of making a
better one. If you doubt me, just think of all the things you are willing to go without in
order to avoid doing the things you don't like to do. All of which seems to prove that the
strength which holds you to your purpose is not your own strength but the strength of the
purpose itself.

Now let's see why habit belongs so importantly in this common denominator of success.
Men are creatures of habit just as machines are creatures of momentum, for habit is
nothing more or less than momentum translated from the concrete into the abstract. Can
you picture the problem that would face our mechanical engineers if there were no such
thing as momentum? Speed would be impossible because the highest speed at which any
vehicle could be moved would be the first speed at which it could be broken away from a
standstill. Elevators could not be made to rise, airplanes could not be made to fly, and the
entire world of mechanics would find itself in a total state of helplessness. Then who are
you and I to think that we can do with our own human nature what the finest engineers in
the world could not do with the finest machinery that was ever built?

Every single qualification for success is acquired through habit. Men form habits and
habits form futures. If you do not deliberately form good habits, then unconsciously you
will form bad ones. You are the kind of man you are because you have formed the habit
of being that kind of man, and the only way you can change is through habit.
The success habits in life insurance selling are divided into four main groups:

1. Prospecting habits

2. Calling habits

3. Selling habits

4. Working habits

Let's discuss these habit groups in their order.

Any successful life insurance salesman will tell you that it is easier to sell life insurance
to people who don't want it than it is to find people who do want it, but if you have not
deliberately formed the habit of prospecting for needs, regardless of wants, then
unconsciously you have formed the habit of limiting your prospecting to people who
want life insurance and therein lies the one and only real reason for lack of prospects.
As to calling habits, unless you have deliberately formed the habit of calling on people
who are able to buy but unwilling to listen, then unconsciously you have formed the habit
of calling on people who are willing to listen but unable to buy.

As to selling habits, unless you have deliberately formed the habit of calling on prospects
determined to make them see their reasons for buying life insurance, then unconsciously
you have formed the habit of calling on prospects in a state of mind in which you are
willing to let them make you see their reasons for not buying it.

As to working habits, if you will take care of the other three groups, the working habits
will generally take care of themselves because under working habits are included study
and preparation, organization of time and efforts, records, analyses, etc. Certainly you're
not going to take the trouble to learn interest-arousing approaches and sales talks unless
you're going to use them. You're not going to plan your day's work when you know in
your heart that you're not going to carry out your plans. And you're certainly not going to
keep an honest record of things you haven't done or of results you haven't achieved. So
let's not worry so much about the fourth group of success habits, for if you are taking care
of the first three groups, most of the working habits will take care of themselves and
you'll be able to afford a secretary to take care of the rest of them for you.

But before you decide to adopt these success habits, let me warn you of the importance of
habit to your decision. I have attended many sales meetings and sales congresses during
the past ten years and have often wondered why, in spite of the fact that there is so much
good in them, so many men seem to get so little lasting good out of them. Perhaps you
have attended sales meetings in the past and have left determined to do the things that
would make you successful or more successful only to find your decision or
determination waning at just the time when it should be put into effect or practice.

Here's the answer. Any resolution or decision you make is simply a promise to yourself,
which isn't worth a tinker's dam unless you have formed the habit of making it and
keeping it. And you won't form the habit of making it and keeping it unless right at the
start you link it with a definite purpose that can be accomplished by keeping it. In other
words, any resolution or decision you make today has to be made again tomorrow, and
the next day, and the next, and the next, and so on. And it not only has to be made each
day, but it has to be kept each day, for if you miss one day in the making or keeping of it,
you've got to go back and begin all over again. But if you continue the process of making
it each morning and keeping it each day, you will finally wake up some morning a
different man in a different world, and you will wonder what has happened to you and the
world you used to live in.

Here's what has happened. Your resolution or decision has become a habit and you don't
have to make it on this particular morning. And the reason for your seeming like a
different man living in a different world lies in the fact that for the first time in your life,
you have become master of yourself and master of your likes and dislikes by surrendering
to your purpose in life. That is why behind every success there must be a purpose and that
is what makes purpose so important to your future. For in the last analysis, your future is
not going to depend on economic conditions or outside influences of circumstances over
which you have no control. Your future is going to depend on your purpose in life. So
let's talk about purpose.

First of all, your purpose must be practical and not visionary. Some time ago, I talked
with a man who thought he had a purpose which was more important to him than income.
He was interested in the sufferings of his fellow man, and he wanted to be placed in a
position to alleviate that suffering. But when he analyzed his real feeling, we discovered,
and he admitted it, that what he really wanted was a real nice job dispensing charity with
other people's money and being well paid for it, along with the appreciation and feeling
of importance that would naturally go with such a job.

But in making your purpose practical, be careful not to make it logical. Make it a purpose
of the sentimental or emotional type. Remember needs are logical while wants and
desires are sentimental and emotional. Your needs will push you just so far, but when
your needs are satisfied, they will stop pushing you. If, however, your purpose is in terms
of wants and desires, then your wants and desires will keep pushing you long after your
needs are satisfied and until your wants and desires are fulfilled.

Recently I was talking with a young man who long ago discovered the common
denominator of success without identifying his discovery. He had a definite purpose in
life and it was definitely a sentimental or emotional purpose. He wanted his boy to go
through college without having to work his way through as he had done. He wanted to
avoid for his little girl the hardships which his own sister had had to face in her
childhood. And he wanted his wife and the mother of his children to enjoy the luxuries
and comforts, and even necessities, which had been denied his own mother. And he was
willing to form the habit of doing things he didn't like to do in order to accomplish this
purpose.

Not to discourage him, but rather to have him encourage me, I said to him, "Aren't you
going a little too far with this thing? There's no logical reason why your son shouldn't be
willing and able to work his way through college just as his father did. Of course he'll
miss many of the things that you missed in your college life and he'll probably have
heartaches and disappointments. But if he's any good, he'll come through in the end just
as you did. And there's no logical reason why you should slave in order that your
daughter may have things which your own sister wasn't able to have, or in order that your
wife can enjoy comforts and luxuries that she wasn't used to before she married you."

He looked at me with rather a pitying look and said, "But Mr. Gray, there's no inspiration
in logic. There's no courage in logic. There's not even happiness in logic. There's only
satisfaction. The only place logic has in my life is in the realization that the more I am
willing to do for my wife and children, the more I shall be able to do for myself."

Imagine, after hearing that story, you won't have to be told how to find your purpose orhow to identify it or how to surrender to it. If it's a big purpose, you will be big in its

accomplishment. If it's an unselfish purpose, you will be unselfish in accomplishing it.
And if it's an honest purpose, you will be honest and honorable in the accomplishment of
it. But as long as you live, don't ever forget that while you may succeed beyond your
fondest hopes and your greatest expectations, you will never succeed beyond the purpose
to which you are willing to surrender. Furthermore, your surrender will not be complete
until you have formed the habit of doing the things that failures don't like to do.

Saturday Morning Thoughts

I'm in my office this morning and I have tons of things swirling around in my head. Let me give you an explanation. So I got up at about 8:30 this morning which is pretty early for me on a Saturday. I had to go deposit some checks at the bank which is normal many clients purchasing travel packages will send Cashier's Checks or Money Orders. On the way home I'm listening to the ready and it's always fascinating listening to "morning shows" on the radio. This is because they are "catering" to the "employee mindset" which is who their target audience is, everyone going to work.

That lead me to several different throught processes in my head. Right now if you have been reading my "Monday Matters" emails then you are beginning to realize and see that there are about to be some major economic shifts happening around us. I have been writing the emails to point out things for you to notice that I have noticed. I have been hoping you started doing your own research and even listen and watch the news with a more critical mind.

Take for example recent events, unemployeement benefits have been extended for up to 99 WEEKS! Now here is what is interesting about this. First it does those of us who are americans NO GOOD. Our politicians are brilliant and most know that this isn't the best thing to do for the American workforce but it sounds good and with a huge precentage of people out of work right now the "unemployeed" becomes a great voting contituency to pander too. Basically your government is looking out for themselves, knowing that they vote in policies that look good and sound good right now, the unemployeed will vote them back in office. In the long run the unemployeed becomes reliant on this supplemental money and will desparately seek or vote for any politican that will give it to them as if there was no end it sight to what the government can provide.

Not too long ago I heard a politician on TV say that these unemployeement benefits needed to be past to help the American worker who can get a job. He went on to say, "Some have said that extending these benefits will simply create an unmotivated workforce. Those that have said that simply don't believe in the American spirit." He went on to say that his opponents were just being heartless etc.

That's great political speech but here is what you need to be aware of and this is why you need to be critically thinking here because you can see the writing on the wall you will be able to take advantage of this wealth tranferance as it happens. This politician knows that what he is saying is missleading. He has access to some of the best economist and studies that have been done by the best intellects in our country. Study after study has shown:

Lengthy unemployeement benefits lead to:

- A decrease in the number of people who are actively seeking work.

This is where the unmotivated argument comes in. It's not to be confused with lazy. It doesn't necessarily mean someone is lazy it just means they don't have the same "urgency" to have to make money. They have some income which can help to ease some stress.

- It drastically decreases the "skilled workforce".

With many industries like technology moving so fast your knowledge today can be outdated in that field in 99 weeks.

- It creates a less desirable workforce and actually makes it more difficult to get a job

Imagine being responsible for hiring at a local company. You have a ton of applicants to consider for one job. It's a low skilled position which are the type of positions that continue to hire through a recession. Most of the applicants have been on unemployeement for many weeks. Which do you consider first the one that has been unemployeed for 85 weeks or the one that has only been out of work for 12 weeks. Which one should adjust better to being back in a work environment?

What do you tell all the rest? You tell them the best rejection line of all. "You are over qualified".

- It decreases the average worker's wage. The longer someone is unemployeed the more likely they are to accept a lower paying job when the are rehired. This usually means they need further government assistance to survive and they continue to vote the one in office who will continue or increase that asisstance.

No greater example of this type of Politics then what I recent read online doing some research:

It's easier to take advantage of what is happening around you versus attempting to single handedly changing it. June 27th was my wedding anniversary

Carmen and I just celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary. We went up to the Blue Ridge mountains and rented a luxury cabin for a week. It was a great time. The first couple of day we basically had some rest and relaxation playing games, and taking naps mostly. As the week went by we did more adventurous things. One day we went hiking for about two hours. There are tons of hiking trails and lots of national forest so that was scenic and incredibly beautiful. Another day we went horseback riding. This was technically my first time on a horse other than being a kid but that was when someone else like my uncle was holding the reins. Horseback riding through the mountains was definitely a good time. We went through the woods, down old logging roads, and open fields. In several places we had incredible views of the mountains.

Thursday of last week was probably one of our highlights (outside of my wife she was THE highlight and has been since the day we got married). We went whitewater rafting. We went down the Ococee River. This was a first for both of us, but man it was SO MUCH FUN. To be honest, I was intimidated alittle at first. Our guide was very knowledgeable and very laid back. Carmen did get knocked out of the raft once, but she got back in and was fine. One boat that was in our group completely turned over. It was alot of fun. If you have never been whitewater rafting then I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it!

We came back home on Friday and had a quiet weekend. Now it's Monday and the first week of July. Back to business. In DFI we have a contest running through the summer and I want to do well with it so I will be giving it a good run. Speaking of which I have an appt now so I need to run but will be back for another blog post later.

Oil Spill in the Gulf and Gas Prices?

I heard the end of last week that the latest Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico is obviously a major crisis, however it seems that some analyst are predicting that plus inflation from out of control government spending could lead to $5 and $10 a gallon gasoline this summer? That doesn't seem too far fetched really, last summer many places in the US saw $4 a gallon gasoline. But in today's current economic environment with unemployeement hovering just under 10% what does $5 or $10 per gallon of gasoline do for you and your family? How about your neighbors?

It's a tragedy really, if you use a tank of gas per week and your car holds 15 gallons per tank then that's like $150 per week in gas. I'll be honest with you, it is amazing how unemployeement and potentially rising gas prices tremendously helped our business. The home busines industry is in a mini surge right now. People want security, people are afraid they may lose the job they have. People are getting laid off and can't find work so they start looking to work from home.

If gas prices go up this summer then people will be looking for ways to get out of commuting so far everyday. That will lead them to looking at working from home. Which just means more people will get started. Those who have an established business already will benefit from the coming growth that will be taking place through the summer months of our industry. Working from home has always been fun and lucrative but it's about to become even more lucrative over the next 6 to 12 months.

The above email I just copied and pasted to here so you could check out Lending Club if you wanted. Let me explain what Lending Club is and how it works. Basically in the simplest of explanations, this is your way of becoming a bank/finance company without any of the overhead. Someone else does the billing and collecting you just reap the profits from your lending activity.

Lending Club is a marketplace where lenders with above average credit score (600 and up). Can apply to get loans at very competative rates. As an investor you are allowed to browse through these loans, you get access to the borrowers full credit profile. Based off of that information you can make a determination if you would like to fund part of the loan starting with as little as $25 up to the full amount they are asking.

Each month when the borrower makes there loan payment to Lending Club you get your portion of that payment plus interest. Each month you are getting part of your principle back with interest you can withdraw this money or reinvest it (this is what I do).

A common question is, What happens if someone fails to pay? Well that can happen and does (has not happened to me yet at Lending Club). If that happens, then Lending club is very proactive with their collections process and they even give you full details about phone calls and emails sent to contact the borrower. I know this because I have one payment that was late and had through notes on that account where borrow was contacted every 2 days for 6 days until they made there payment. That made me feel good to see they were so aggressive on the collections piece.

You are able greatly reduce any risk by being picky with the credit profiles you lend to. For example you are able to see the borrows credit score, any defaults or late payments they had in the past 5 years, how long they have been employeed, if they own their home or rent, you see how much income they earn, what their debt to income ratios is, what their revolving credit line precentage is, etc. You really are able to see alot of information before making the decision to let someone borrow money.

Another recommendation is to diversify in to several loans and not just put your eggs all in one basket. In wrapping this up, I would highly enourage anyone looking to save or invest money to seriously give Lending Club a shot it has been one of the easiest most flexible investments for me. The best part is it produces an income each and every month and it's consistent! Below I have listed some Pros and Cons.

People can default. Just diversify into a bunch of loans. Start with the safest ones first till you feel comfortable. Be picky who you lend to based on their credit profile.

This recently went out to all members in DFI. I wanted to pass it along to you because it has a great motivational story as well as the latest news and announcements taking place inside of DFI and Coastal Travel. I hope you enjoy reading.

The Old Mule
Once upon a time a farmer owned an old mule who tripped and fell into the farmer's well. The farmer heard the mule braying and was unable to figure out how to bring up the old animal. It grieved him that he could not pull the animal out. He'd been a good worker around the farm. Although the farmer sympathized with the mule, he called his neighbors together and told them what had happened. He had them help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and quietly put him out of his misery.

At first, the old mule was puzzled, but as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, he had a thought: he ought to shake off the dirt and step up. And he did just that.
"Shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up." Even though he took painful blows of dirt and fought panic, he just kept right on shaking it off and stepping up!
It wasn't long before the old mule stepped up and over the lip of that well. What could have buried him actually blessed him...all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.

You can improve life tomorrow...

Copy of an email I just sent, thought it would be good to post here also. I hope you enjoy it.

Before I leave my office today. I wanted to send you a quick email. After 5 and a half years of working from home I wanted to share some prespective with you. In some ways I am no different than you are. In other ways we are drastically different. Before I started working from home, my life looked much different than it does today. My father passed away when I was 9 years old. Back then we were less than well off living in a 15 year old single wide trailor. Later my mom met a man who took over the father role in my life. He was a tobacco farmer in North Carolina (still is). From 12 years old till college (when I moved out) life was very difficult it was an endless cycle of waking up working on the farm literally until it was time to go in, eat, take a shower and go to bed.

There was none of this "prime time TV, let's watch American Idol stuff". There just was not time for it. However our family was better off financially somewhat. We lived in a home this man had built. Nothing extravagant but it beat the single wide we had once lived in. To this date, from about 12 years old till 19 years old when I moved out, were the hardest years of my life. The reason I moved out was because, I was doing my best to go to college and get a Nursing Degree which would give me a way to move out and be on my own. However, mom and her now fiance both felt that the work on the farm superceded anything else that I had going on with college. I have often wondered why they didn't encourage me and support me more with college I think they wanted me to eventually become a farmer, they have a lot of pride in their work. Which is good but that was not the life for me.
I had an oppurtunity to move in with a family which I did not even know at the time. I knew the daughter of the family, she was dating ( now married to one of my best friends at the time). For whatever reason, her mom offered to let me live with them. I don't think she was very serious when she made that offer but I took her very serious and took her up on it. A week later I moved out of my home and in with them. I remember the morning I left home. My mom was crying in the kitchen, she told me she loved me and I left. In the car I remember be scared to death. I remember crying. I did not know these people I was moving in with, I did not know how I was going to make if this didn't work or if I failed out of school, my grades were already in jeopardy.

Living with another family was definitely an adjustment. I was always the outsider infringing on someone else's family and it's dynamics. I slept in one of the bedrooms, share the chores, shared their food, eventually moved to sleeping on their couch. In some ways I had a home in others I was totally homeless. However, living with this family gave me the oppurtunity I needed to help change my life forever. If you ever meet Jean Palumbo or Randy Palumbo in Western Springs Illinois, just know they are good people who helped change my life.
Eventually I graduated Nursing School and became an RN (again thanks to Ms. Jean and Mr. Randy). I moved out right away and start renting a single wide trailor. It felt like "deja vu" but hey it was a start in life. I knew early on that I was going to have to do something different. At this point I had acquired some debt, I saw myself slipping backwards financially. I knew I had to find away to start getting a head. I started looking into every form of investing or income generation I could find. I started a couple of small businesses and failed. I looked into working from home and worked with a couple of companies and still could not get ahead. Part of me had considered giving up but late one night I stumbled on to Coastal Travel. I got started and the rest is history...
I went to a training event with Dani Johnson and 30 days later generated $15,000. I felt like I had hit the megamillions lottery. My first year I earned $70,000 working part time with Coastal Travel. That's when I left my nursing career behind. My second year I earned $120,000 and have been working from home ever since. I have told you all of this just to give you a little prespective. Live is so much better today than it once was. I am no longer living in a single wide trailor, I no longer work sun up to sun down like on the farm. I no longer have to worry about sleeping on some else's couch, I am no longer going backwards in debt and life continues to improve.

Your life can improve as well. No matter where you are or what your situation is. Things can get better for you. No I'm not about to tell you starting a home business is the answer for you because it may not be. What I am telling you is just focus on what you can improve tomorrow about the situation that you are in. It is not today that counts, it's what you do with tomorrow that is the most important. If you will just focus on improving something anything tomorrow then eventually your situation will start to improve. If every tomorrow gets better than naturally each yesterday gets better as well.

There was a time when I was on the farm growing up. I felt stuck, and hopeless. I honestly felt like a slave many days. I was fed, and I had a roof over my head. But every single day was a grind and there was no clear end in site. At 16 I knew I just had to hang on cause by 18 or 19 I would be in a position that I could make decisions to improve my life. So what did I do at 16, I waited and calculated and planned for the time when I could make those decisions. I am telling you, if life is tough right now there will be a better time and a better season ahead for you. Shift your focus from where you are and start focusing on where you are going.

There is no magic bullet to improving life or success. Just work with the right focus and direction. It sounds like I had success really fast when you here my first two years. But I promise you it did not always feel like that when I was in the middle working each day during those first two years. Doing my best to squeeze in time to build a business, around my work schedule that was always changing. It felt tough in the beginning. It felt like a grind once again. But I knew that i just had to focus on the actions of tomorrow which was being diligent with my business knowing that eventually success would come. Then it came, even after that there were doubts:

"Maybe you were lucky"

"It will not happen again"

But even then I could not dwell there I had to focus on what my decision was going to be the next day. Again .... don't dwell on where you are at, focus on where you are going.

Passion and Poetry in Atlanta Georgia

Last night the wife and I celebrated our Valentine's Day. It was a good night. We ate at an Italian resteraunt called Maggianos. It was very good. I am not usually a big fan of Italian food. Don't get me wrong I love my wife's amazing speggehti and her lasagna. However, I would prefer to eat other cuisine's when going out for a dinner. However, Carmen loves Italian so that is why we went there. I am really glad we did.

After Dinner, we went to Passion and Poetry downtown. That was a very interesting experience to say the least. The first Poet came out and his name was Bo Ellis, he was ultra vulgar from the start and had rhyming skills that were just simply not that impressive. However there were some highlights of the night. Sphinx, was a Poet who was one of the few that wasn't over the top sexual. His poem was all about relationships and making it as team when you realize that you may have lost that initial puppy love at the start of a relationship. He was great.

Another Poet was Raucus, she was very sexual in her poem. She was amazingly skilled and alot of fun to listen to. If I have ever heard a wordsmith it was her. She had complete command of the english vocabulary. Another highlight, without question was when "Theo" from the Coosby Show came out and preformed. He too was also very good. Over all I would say it was a great time. Most of the Poets were OK with a few stand outs. None the less I very well could attend again.

Today, is about having a relaxing day at home. I will probably log on and play some online Poker. I also have some Snow Crab Legs set out so I will probably steam them up alittle later as well. Overall a lazy Sunday.

Michael,

Here it is 2010. Do you remember the year 2000 and the whole Y2K scare? Wasn't that a joke? Doesn't it seem like just yesterday it was 2000 and now it's 10 years later. Let me ask you John, how different is life for you today than it was ten years ago? In other words if someone would have asked you New Year's 2000 where you would want to be at years later, what would you have said? Are you there now (10 years later)?

If you have accomplished all of your goals such as save for retirement, financial freedom, save for kids college, have your own business, travel more if you have been able to do these things then congratulations on your success with those goals. What are you next goals?

If you have not then the question is simple, what are the steps you are going to take to make 2010 better than the last ten years. What are you doing to do differently this year. Don't just say it, make a plan for it. Figure out what steps you need to take and start focusing on taking those steps. This is a fresh start it's a New Year we get to make this year anything that we want. Let's be sure to live this year by Design and not by Default.

John, let's make it a great year. I wish you the best in 2010! I have just one question for you. What will you do differently this year?

I felt the need to reply to Michael in part because I agreed with him. God is in control but in part because I have seen so many people forget they have freewill. Hence living by "default" versus living by "design". I am assuming Michael didn't mean he has no control of his life or that he was not responsible for his actions and inactions but his email struck a cord with me. I immediately started typing back. Hopefully it wasn't anything he took personally or wasn't offended.

Hey Michael,

The New Year is under way I hope you are off to as good of a start as we are. You are right my friend God is in control. He is the one the brings every oppurtunity our way however, he never controls our decisions. That is where our freewill comes from.

For example if we make bad decisions that do not allow us to live up to our potential. God is not responsible nor in control of that. We are. God blessed us with amazing oppurtunities to take advantage of and incredible obstacles to learn from. The decisions we make, or don't make rest squarely on us.

That reminds me of a story...

A man was trapped in a flood. He begged God to save him. As he was praying the water started coming into his home. There was a knock at the door and it was his neighbor and his neighbor offered to help him get out with as much stuff as they could carry. But the man said, "Don't worry about me help someone else. God is going to save me".

Before long the water was waist deep in the man's house. He begged God to please save him. About that time their was a knock at the door, when the man opened the door he saw a Sherriff's Deputy in a small boat. The Deputy told the man he was there to take him to safety. The man refused saying, "I can't afford to leave my house. I can't afford to replace my things. Besides I am praying and God WILL save me."

After a while the man's house was almost completely covered with water except for his roof. He had managed to escape to the roof with the few things he could carry. A National Guard Helicopter flew over and a soldier rapelled down to the rooftop and told them man that he was there to save him. The man responded, "No I can't go with you. I can't afford to leave behind these few positions it's all I have. Besides, I prayed to God and I have faith he WILL save me..

Eventually the man's house became covered with water and he drowned. When he went to heaven. He pleaded with God, "God, I served you my whole life, I was faithful, why did you not save me".

God responded, "My child I wanted nothing but a long and prosperous life for you. When I first heard your prayers I immediately tried to save you. I sent your neighbor to save you early on but you refused my help. I sent the sherriff's deputy in a boat but you turn me away again. I even sent the National Guard with a helicopter but your refused me then as well ".

Mike, this is obviously a fiction story but it parallels my own life. When I was a nurse, I realized I could never become debt free and be able to retire working as a nurse. So I asked God to give me a way. A way to be debt free, a way to be my own boss, a way to have more free time to serve him. I exhausted every avenue and ever oppurtunity that presented itself and then I discovered Coastal Travel. My knee jerk reaction was I can't afford but then I said God if you presented this to me then I will find a way if this is what I am supposed to do. It was not easy, it was humbling to say the least, but I found a way. Today, I am almost debt free, I am my own boss, and I have more time to serve my God.

I wonder what God would have said if when I died I went to heaven and told him that I could not accept the answer to my prayer that he guided to me because I did not have the money? Maybe he knew finding the money was the very thing I needed to do to be committed to my own success but who knows that's all just speculation.

So I'll end with this. Attack every obstacle and oppurtunity with enthusiasm and excitement because they are always there by his Design.

Awake and Thinking about my week

What a week ahead? I have high anticipation for what's to come. It's 12:54 am and I can't seem to sleep so I decided to get up and come into my home office and write this blog post maybe I can get somethings off of my mind. I am planning for this week to be a great week. Not really for anyone particular reason, it has more to do with it being the beginning of the week. I usually like to look at the beginning of the week as a fresh start looking to do better than I did the week before. However, my enthusiasm maybe increased because I have so many things running through my head. For one thing we have some updates that are coming down the pike for our websites. I'm expecting these websites to be even more effective than our current websites. We are looking for our websites to bring more credibility to our company as they look more professional. At the same time we are looking for them to be very clear as they explain our business model; this is increasingly important as our company continues to grow and we are looking to attract more quality people to our distribution channels.

I am also anticipating the end of the year. This is always such a great time for the business development side of my business. For this year this is especially true, I know we are going to be launching some brand new programs going into 2010 which will continue to boost our efforts to grow our distributor base. I am preparing to have a team of new distributors (actually we call them Directors in Coastal Travel) going into 2010. I want to go into the new year with full momentum versus waiting for the new year to start building momentum. When these new programs come out I want our team to hit the ground running. This is also the time of the year when I start formulating my goals and making plans for the next year. This will be a big year for me. I am 30 years old now that is a milestone in and of itself, also we are planning to move to the great state of Georgia, so it's a reason to start fresh and even better than ever. The move doesn't really have a physical effect on my Coastal Travel business since most all of my business is done online, it's more of a psychological effect. Results from First Steps To Success

As you know from my last post, I was at First Steps to Success this weekend in Orlando. I am now listening into a conference call from some of the individuals that were there this weekend. I'll recap it here for you.

Rob Larson from Ottowa, CA
His wife attended First Steps to Success to get training in her home business. After he saw the results she was getting he decided he needed to get there. At the time he was working for $10/hour at a burger joint. He had been to jail and was not suppose to cross the Canadian Border due to some issues he had with the Border Security. However, he took the risk because he had seen what happened with his wife. After attending FSTS he decided to step out on faith and started a landscaping business. He had experience in landscaping but had NEVER planned or thought he would start a business. By specifically using the training that he learned he generated $90,000 his first six months in business. Rob said, "Because of the success we are having, we have finanlly been able to pay off our wedding debt!"

Denise and her husband are accountants, 4 years ago they paid $20,000 to attend a conference designed to teach accountants how to close business and get more clients. From that seminar she become one of the top students with a 33% closing ratio. Not to long ago she went to her first FSTS seminar. Using the scripts straight from Dani's Scriptbook she increased her closing ratio to 80% from 33%, got 15 new clients the past 3 months and increased her billing by $35,000. Denise said,"And to think First Steps to Success was far more effective at teaching me to close and I only paid $297 not $20,000. That seminar company, I trained with before called and asked if I would like to take more classes with them and I said NO WAY"

Heard about Dani Johnson two years ago when starting a homebusiness. Said she went to the website but never went to FSTS because she couldn't afford it. Two years later she had failed and quit that home business. Moved to a new state and got a job. When she started that job they asked her if she had ever heard of Dani Johnson. She was blown away and told them yes. She decided to get registered for the next First Steps to Success,but failed at her job and quit before that training event. After coming out of First Steps she decided to go back to that job. Her first 3 days back she had a 100 precent closing ratio (she had not closed anyone before that). She quadrupled her income, and now has started another home business. She said, "It blows my mind to think the only reason I didn't succeed with my last home business was because I thought I couldn't afford the training".

Nike and his wife owned a traditional massage therapy business but also started a home business (with Coastal Travel). Nike said, "I was very skeptical at first but after attending the website and seeing all the testimonials I knew all those people just couldn't be lying". Prior to his First Steps training he had already been asked to join the Chamber of Commerce and to be an Ambassador, where his role was to help new business owners and support them as they got started in business. She said, "I'm totally blown away, I feel this is a dream and I should wake up". I think she really summed it up well when she shared something Dani Johnson said this weekend:

At First Steps To Success

Currently sitting in the Hyatt Hotel in Orlando. I have an appt to call a client back at 2 pm EST. So I figured I would write a quick blog post. After this appt. I'm going to grab a quick nap. I want to make sure that I am well rested before this event gets started. First Steps To Success, is a training event that I would say is the corner stone of our success as a company. Not that it is necessarily required but the individuals that have went have really excelled. People like Tara Hayes from MI, a young women putting herself through college actually attended First StepsTo Success just before she started working with the company and generated $15,000 in herfirst 3 months just working part time around her school schedule.

So I am excited to be here this weekend. Looking forward to what I can learn and apply to my personal business as well as meeting the brand new people that have started working with us. In a Democratic nation we have many choices. The sum of our choices will determine the level of success we will reach. You will hear people say, “One day I am going to have a bigger home” or “I will make more money” or “I will drive a better car.” The question you have to ask yourself if you have said these things is, “Do I really mean it?” If you do, do you have a plan? Will your current plan get you the things that you have said you wanted? If you answered no, to one of the last three questions, then you are only dreaming. You are wishing with no real desire and will likely have no more than you currently have in life. You see we have to make a conscious decision to succeed in life or to just have something more. If you are unhappy with your life then look in the mirror because in all likelihood you have no one else to blame but yourself. Sure, there are circumstances OUT of our control; but how we deal with and overcome those circumstances IS within our control!

We can choose what to wear. We can choose the hairstyle or haircut we want. We choose who our friends are. We choose what jobs to apply for. We decide whether or not to show up at work on time. Does it not stand to reason, that if we have so many choices in life? We can make choices that will allow us to be successful? If you wanted to start a business and didn’t have the money, you can choose to save, beg, borrow, and scrap the money until you have enough to get started. The great thing about Coastal as we know is it didn’t take that much to get started. Let’s face it; if one’s life depended on it 90% of the people in a Democratic nation could come up with at least $5000 within 72 hours. So the real question is how bad do you want it? If you choose to just work your nine to five J.O.B. (Just Over Broke) and choose not to get anymore out of life. Please do me this one favor, don’t be envious or hateful as I become more and more successful just because you have chosen not to.

It amazes me at the number of people who are unhappy in life and are quick to ridicule those that seem to have more; but yet they refuse to make choices that would allow them to get more out of life. If you have chosen to join this amazing business of ours, then congratulations! You are making a choice to get more out of life and to succeed in some way. However, if you are in Coastal and you are making $50,000 to $60,000 a year but continue to say you want to make $100,000. Ask yourself, “Am I making the choice to do that or am I just wishing it?” It is ok to wish and to fantasize about things just make sure that you are honest with yourself and you recognize the difference between wishing and choosing.

If you are just starting with Coastal make a CHOICE right away to be successful. If your business is not doing as well as you would like, that’s great! You can choose to change that! Make a CHOICE to grow your business to where you want it. If you want to make $50,000 in this business then CHOOSE that. If you want to make $100,000 then CHOOSE that. If you want to make $1,000,000 then CHOOSE that. Just remember success is a choice!

Stacy O'Quinn in DFI/Coastal Travel what does that mean?

If you saw my previous post then you know my brother Stacy O'Quinn, has made the decision to leave the financial services industry and go back to building a home business with DFI. What does that mean? From a business stand point it really means we are all better off. Stacy, bring alot to the table, he is someone who excels in this environment. From a personal standpoint... Holy Cow..

I'm so glad my brother is back. I hated seeing him leave primarily because I felt like a mother hen I guess. I know he has a family to support and I always knew he could easily do that hear as well as reaching all of his other goals. I was very nervous for him stepping out there to do something more unknown. Even when he started going really well I was still nervous. He told me how well he was doing according to the rest of the company and his peers who got started the same time he did. He was number one in his class at the time. He was in the top 10% of his peers for the entire company of Edward Jones, 1500% above the standard they had set for him. That is NOT a typo, I did mean to put two zeros there. However, he told me back then he was only earning about $3,000 to $4,000 a month before his expenses. I knew he was working 3 or 4 times as hard as he did with his Coastal Travel business just to make so much less money.

So when he finally told me he was coming back to Coastal Travel. I new he would come back and continue to have a positive impact on our team. But, I was just glad to have my brother back in business with me. Keep up the good work bro!

My late birthday present

For my birthday my wife took me to the local casino and we saw a magic show called "Carnival of Wonders". That was on Saturday night. It was a great show and a great time. Some really cool illusions. I think what made the show so good is that it wasn't just magic. It was comedy, dancing, and singing all built around the illusions. My wife is the best, what a great evening we had. Before we went to the show we ate a steak at the steak house in the casino. We had not been there in a while, and I had forgotten how fantastic the place was. She had a 16oz New York strip cooked medium to medium well. I had a filet mignon, 8oz cooked medium with lump crab meat top. It was just fantastic! Not to mention I enjoyed the company of the most beautiful girl in the world... My wife!

Why I love Coastal Travel

Working from home with Coastal Travel offers one very very clear advantage. That is FREEDOM! Without a doubt it's the single best reason to work from home. Yes the money is great. Having a chance to impacts clients lives with our amazing products is outstanding as well, but nothing really compares to the freedom of being your own boss.

I just returned from nearly a 3 week vacation. The Thursday before Labor Day my wife and I drove down to Georgia from our home here in MI. We were looking for an area that we want to relocate to. We spent 3 days over the weekend just driving around and scoping out towns and suburbs around Atlanta. We had a great time envisioning and discovering new places to live (we want to get out of the cold MI winters). On Sunday, I dropped her off at the airport and she flew back home because she had to get back to her on small business ( a retail store). I left Atlanta, and drove to NC to visit some of my family there in Goldsboro, NC. I spent two weeks there before driving home.

It was during my stay there when I was calling a few clients that I realized how quickly and easily we can take this lifestyle for granted. I had TOTAL FREEDOM while there. I was able to work my Coastal Travel business some but mostly went fishing with my Uncle and my brother. I had a chance to play with my niece and nephew. I saw my mom and my grandma and some of my cousins it was a great time.

When I was driving home (I was very excited to get back and see my wife). I realized how fortunate I am to just be in a position where I get to choose how and when I work. I don't have to ask for a boss' premission or wonder if I have enough vacation time. Now that is freedom, thanks to Coastal Travel!

Let's not take life for granted

In my last post I had discussed the passing of someone that I had respected in the home business industry. That was on my brain alot last week. This week I have been focusing on the things that we take for granted. Of course, I thought about my family, my wife, my friends, etc. Then yesterday, I took some time out in the afternoon and just went for a walk in our neighborhood and as I am walking I realized; I have totally taken my home business for granted! What a conviction!

I think it has become such a way of life that I just don't think about it. There was a time when I would have thought this was the perfect lifestyle, and it is. But, I realize that it has become normal for me and therefore I have become complacent. I work about 25 hours a week (to be honest usually less) but after 5 years I have taken that as "just my schedule". I don't have to work too hard to generate a six figure income, again I have accepted that as normal. It really is disgusting.

I am incredibly fortunate and I am vowing to continue to recognize this. I am going to start working with a renewed focus. I do not plan to increase my hours worked but I am going to start becoming more productive with my work schedule. In 2010 I want to set a new personal record and earn $250,000. I will be debt free by the end of the year so this will allow me to not only help more people through my home business but also to help many of my favorite charities as well.

Look at the legacy Phil Longnecker left behind. He created jobs for many people in a small town in PA. He helped thousands of individuals to succeed in a home business from his advertising. He created a personal fortune that made certain his family and his young daughter had a secure future even though he is no longer with us. He impacted thousands of children through the thousands of dollars he donated to "Toys for Tots". I will never be able to impact my family and those around me if I just stay comfortable with $100,000 a year from home.

If you have been reading my blog from the beginning then you have followed me from before I knew how to run a successful business to today. Stay tuned, cause we are about to take it to the next level. Those who I am fortunate to be in business with hang on, cause the best is yet to come!

Cutting Edge Media misses Phil Longnecker

Some tragic news we wanted to make you aware of..

Phil Longnecker was the owner and founder of Cutting Edge Media. Phil built CEM from a 2 man operation to a multimillion dollar international success story. At one time CEM was providing advertising to every major home based business company in the US and to many companies outside the US. Unfortunately Phil passed away Saturday night in a car accident. Phil’s dream was to be the leading advertising agency/lead production company in the Home Based Business industry. Phil, no doubt, met and exceeded that goal and his legacy will live on for years to come. He had a huge heart and always gave back to his community. He treated his employees like family and he treated his clients with honor and respect. Phil set an amazing example as a 2%’er and a business owner.

He had so much love to give and never ceased to give it. On a visit to their company offices a while back Jackie and Renae were told several stories about Phil, the way he looked out for his employees and gave back to the community. One such story was that Phil often considered the employees at CEM his personal friends and an extenstion of his family. From time to time he would host all of the employees and their family at his house. Phil, had a special place in his heart for kids. He didn't want the kids to be bored having a good time. He wanted to make sure the kids enjoyed their time as well, so he would hire a petting zoo to come in and set up at his house (on his manicured lawn) so the kids would have something entertaining to do.

Another time a couple of years ago around Christmas. Phil, came into the offices at CEM and told his sales staff it was time to go shopping. He gave one of them a blank check and told them to go to K-Mart and buy the whole toy department! They did and all of the toys were donated to "Toys For Tots" an organization close to Mr. Longnecker's heart. We will all surely miss him. He loved Cutting Edge Media and was an incredibly smart entrepreneur. In his savvy wisdom Phil had prepared for such an event as this, so Cutting Edge Media will live on as will Phil’s legacy. Cutting Edge Media, as a company will continue to prosper and grow!

Back home from the honeymoon

Ok so it's been less than 3 weeks (the wife could tell you specifically) and married life is great. It just feels right, it feels complete. Unfortunately I didn't get to update you from the cruise ship as much I would have liked to. Internet was just way to sluggish there. We left Puerto Rico, and went to St. Thomas and Grand Turk. Both were very beautiful islands, we went snorkeling at each island. Grand Turk's snorkeling was far better than St. Thomas'. Overall it was a great honeymoon and a fantastic vacation.

Today is my first day back to work in the home office and I felt like "it was time". I say I'm in my home office but I guess you can say I'm just in the office. We lived in a duplex before we got married. I lived on one side and she lived on the other side. Now we both live on her side and I affectionately call my side the "Office Complex" mostly just as a joke. We are planning to move later in the year out of state so we will probably just keep renting the whole duplex till we move. One side is just a little cramped for both of us.

I have to comment on one more thing as well. Our wedding was amazing! I had very little to do with that but my incredible wife, our friend and wedding planner Jen, and our maid of honor Jenn; all allowed us to have the wedding of a life time. We kept it simple but over all it was incredible.

I have a lot more that I could share but it's time to get to work. I wrote this while I was waiting for my advertising to start rolling in which should be coming in already. So bye for now...

Update on the Honeymoon

Life is good, probably doesn't get much better than hanging out on a luxurious cruise ship. Luxury defined by, I couldn't work on this boat if I wanted to, drinks are brought to me whenever I want them, and great food is also available at anytime day or night. Today we were in Puerto Rico, while at the beach I was talking with my wife (still working on getting use to that lol). I was telling her how excited I was for our future, how excited I am for my next chapter in our lives and in our businesses.

I could criticize my mistakes if I chose too, however, if I look at the life that has been provided by our Coastal Vacations/DFI business then quickly realize how fortunate we are. I can not honestly tell you why people choose not to work for themselves. Owning your own business offers so much more in the way of flexibility and rewards. This blog itself was started before I ever even had a successful Coastal Vacations/DFI business. Going from being a Registered Nurse to Entrepreneur was vastly different and vastly more exciting. As an entrepreneur I get to help more people, more permanently, and have a greater impact on their future. I am definitely able to have a greater financial impact on my favorite charities as well.

Tomorrow we will be in St. Thomas. This will be my second time visiting St. Thomas since starting my Coastal Vacations/DFI business. However, it will be my first time snorkeling there. I am excited since St. Thomas is suppose to have fantastic snorkeling. Since our vacation two summers ago to Bora Bora, where we probably snorkeled for probably 3 or 4 hours a day, we have been looking to doing a snorkeling again. I just looked out see that we started out of port. The internet connection isn't very strong on the ship so I am about to log off.

I will give you a quick update on something else also. I think I am going to start a weekly online poker tournament. Online poker is a hobby of mine and I have been thinking about getting together some sort of a weekly tournament with like a $10 buy in. A Coastal Vacations/DFI wedding

It's really like the Coastal Vacations/DFI wedding. I don't mean it's "themed" or anything. I mean that many of the friends that are there will be people flying in from all over the world. People that I have met and come to love as a results of my Coastal Vacations business and DFI. This August it will be 5 years since I have been a Director in Coastal Vactions/DFI. I have seen so much and have been so thankful for the life that I have been able to live. I have lived like a millionaire, I am surely on my way. However, I have lived a very flexible lifestyle. I make my hours, I work when I want (hence why I'm not a millionaire). I have learned so much about myself, about life, and about being and entrepreneur.

This business has given me so much and now it gives me the oppurtunity to marry the most amazing woman I have ever met. Carmen, is not only gorgeous, she is smart, strong willed, supportive, and ambitious in her own right. An interesting tidbit about Carmen and Coastal Vacations. Carmen and my Uncle Pat, were the only two people that were supportive of my Coastal business in the very beginning. In fact, Carmen, has supported everthing that I have ever wanted to do. Our wedding is officially this Saturday. Then we are off on our 10 day honeymoon on Monday. We are going on a 10 day cruise to Bermuda, San Juan Puerto Rico, Turks Cacos, and St. Thomas. I will probably find a couple of times to blog from the cruiseship so I will likely keep you update from the high seas. Even this honeymoon, would probably not be possible for me if it was for my Coastal Vacactions/DFI business. First of all our honeymoon will be two weeks long, I don't know that I would have been able to do that if I was still an RN I don't know if I could have gotten that much time off. It definitely would have had to be approved by management for sure. Also, we have a balcony room on this cruise, with airfare and hotel arrangements plus spending money. This could have put me in alot of debt as a nurse. However, with Coastal Vacations/DFI earlier this year I made a Platinum Travel Package sale; with that I earn a profit of $9,705. I paid taxes on it, tithed on it, and set the rest aside for our honeymoon.

Thanks to Coastal Vacations/DFI, I am helping to pay for a wedding, paying for the honeymoon, getting out of debt, and I never had to ask a boss for anything. The next two weeks are going to be spectacular! You can follow along in the next post.

Coastal Travel is real!

Working in the travel industry is alot of fun but getting letters like this helps us to know that we are allowing people to take vacations that they may otherwise not be able to take with our current economy. Rack rate is $314.29... per nights, now we only pay $10 per person per night. This unit can fit all of us 8 people... .me, my husband, my two boys, my sister, her husband and her two boys. I am so excited to see my sister and her family and create wonderful memories with them.

The grass may be greener but...

Something I have been thinking about for awhile so I have decided to share this with you. I was actually having a discussion with a friend of mine recently and he said that I should write a blog post on this. So I am taking his advice.

This is about distractions and the way people allow themselves to get distracted. It comes down to a loss of focus and what I believe is misplacing their focus. This most often occurs either after someone has had a period of success or when they get frustrated because success has not come to them as fast as they wanted with their current home business.

So here's what happens people start looking around at other business and it's like the 80/20 rule. They say, "My business is to inexpensive for people to get started so there is no commitment and they don't seem to ever go to work."

Or they say...

"It's too expensive to get started in my business, if it was cheaper then I could get more people started"

So they spend time looking at the 20% they don't have and never realize the 80% they do have. Someone told me once, "The grass may be greener on the other side but, you still have to mow it". When I was first looking at the home based business industry I use to get all excited by each new oppurtunity that came my way. I would look at a new product or company or compensation plan and I would start dreaming of the big paychecks coming in. However, shortly after that reality set in and the truth is I had to go to work to make anything happen. So when I started working I would often look at that particular business I was wanting to build and I would think, "Hey, if this was less expensive I could probably sell more and make more money." ( I am using that as an example) and off I would go getting excited about a totally different business. I would totally lose focus. I even see this happen to people after they have had success in business. I will give you an example of my friend I mentioned earlier. This guy was at one time ( and soon will be again ) a superstar with Coastal Travel. However, after a while he got distracted and decided to give a couple other companies his time and resources. He eventually landed with a company that he was hoping to eventually build up a large residual income stream.

With Coastal Travel, we can make alot of money fast. I don't know of any where you can earn this much money this fast. I know of no other company that pays better. However, with our product we don't charge people for using our products each and over month so there is no traditional residual income. This particular friend was saying, "Look there are people in XYZ company earning $1,000,000 a year in residual income with a customer base of over 300,000".

I responded this way, "With Coastal John (not his real name) if you brought in just 3,000 customers with our middle package you would earn $9,000,000. If you put that towards rental properties you would have a much more solid income stream, that would be a much more stable residual, and much more valuable because you could resell the properties in the future".

The bottom line is, do you want it to be a residual income that you control or one that you are dependent on a company to continue to pay you? There are pros and cons to each for certain. John said that was exactly what he had been realizing that's why he had decided to go back and build a Coastal Travel business. "Bottom line, there is nothing that I am aware of that can pay me any better." he said.

However, I have heard similar conversations before. People just forget what they do have and start focusing on what they don't have. It's funny how that happens. I will give you another example. I helped set a young woman up in her Coastal business once... and her reason for getting started was because she worked with a different company marketing a very low ticket item and she would sale about 5 of these items each month and she told me. If I just sold 5 of your bottom packages in a month, I would earn $5,000 and if I sale just one of your top packages I will earn over $9,000. She was correct the probably was she assumed she could sale just as many of our products which are at a much higher price point than she had previously been accustomed to. She got frustrated when she didn't make money as fast as she initially had expected. Truthfully she would have been better off to stick with the company she had her previous success with and just go to work!

Instead, she thought she saw a way to make more money with Coastal. She could have made more money probably but it would required a new skill set that she had not learned yet. She left a company that she had learned how to make money with only to end up getting frustrated when those same skills didn't allow her to make money with a new company.

This post is really just a cautionary tale. Remember: The grass may be greener on the other side but you still have to mow it!

Coastal Travel and MyDFILive is a scam

Someone told me a long time ago, you will always have your critics and the bigger you become the more critics you will have. However, the most constructive thing you can do is simply answer your critics with brand new success. Last week we had a 3 day Blitz. Below are some of the people who reported having success during our 3 day Blitz. These are only the ones that told us, I wonder how many more are out there having success and not telling anyone?

Stephen Smothers, brand new to the team, just started dialing last Friday. He has 2 brand new people in training in his first week. Participated in the Blitz and works a full time job! Congrats Stephen.

Crystal Weber made her first Premier sale! Congratulations Crystal!

Lorraine Rodman generated $9705 in profit on day 1 of the Blitz!

Mike Cowan broke his personal record for dialing during this blitz!

Jerry and Pam Mercer stepped it up and accomplished twice the number of dials they normally do! Way to go!

Scott Harter is brand new to the business and not only participated in the blitz, but he turned in his numbers and held himself accountable! Way to go!

Cynthia Della Pietro just got started, received her script books on Monday, got leads on Tuesday, participated in the Blitz on Wednesday and closed her VERY first sale!

Jolynn Skarin and Keri Skarin just learned a new skill this week from Dani Johnson’s training and implemented it for the first time. They made a decision to not worry about being perfect, they just focused on results and did an amazing job during this blitz!

Nike Roach and Bonnie Clark presented Coastal to 5500 people at a job fair during the Blitz and as a result have 70 new HOT prospects a piece! Great job exposing your business you 2!!

William Piechocki just finished his boot camp on Tuesday and sent an update to Announcements on his progress! Way to take initiative. A brand new person could just not participate at all, but William is holding himself accountable from DAY 1 in his business!

Lynn Hardy is brand new and participated in the blitz. She has a brand new person getting started as a result of the blitz. She was sick as a dog, but didn’t let ANYTHING stop her! Way to go Lynn!

Lorraine from WV, joined Coastal Travel the end of last year. She worked for Rolls Royce as a corporate events planner and really liked the job. Earning $500 per hour

Often times people ask, how fast can I make money in Coastal Travel? Let me tell you what happened last Thursday Jan. 29th. As with most days I was receiving requests for more information about Coastal Travel from our advertising companies. I was calling those clients back. One particular client I called at 12 pm EST, his name was Patrick. Patrick is an RN like myself but is currently working full time. He wants to pay off his debts and make enough money he can retire soon. He is getting close to retirement but doesn't have enough money saved to be able to retire. He had been looking for a way to make extra money from home for the past two years. He said he had tried alot of things but never had any success. Once he even spent $5,000 on an online store. He didn't get any support and no training, therefore the store sat online and made no sales at all!

I read our script to Patrick and directed him to my website at http://mydfilive.com/direct.php?id=123456&password=password. After that I scheduled him for one of our Live Conference Calls that started at 1 pm. After the conference call I read another script to him, the last line of that script says, "How do you want to take care of the purchase of your package, Cashier's Check, Money Order, or Credit Card". He thought for a moment and then he said, "I have a Mastercard". I took his payment information and process his payment for his Basic Travel Package. Once I finished, I hung up the phone and sat back into my office chair and noticed the time 1:59 pm EST. That was a new record! I spoke to our new team member at 12 and by 2 I had made $1,000 in profit!

This never gets old! I mean never. It so simple too, just reading a script, taking people through a simple process and then reading another script. John, if you want to be able to make up to $1000 in two hours let me know.

I love being a part of DFI. We currently have one of the best contest ever running right now. Can you imagine 5 days on a Paradise Island!? How about several islands?

I am about to give you a little known fact about the home based business industry!

This is planting time! This is one of the best times of the year to be working. This is for several reasons, first many amateurish homebased business owners are slacking off due to the pending holiday season. Second, people are still looking to work from home and still requesting information everyday. 30,000 people will start a homebased business this week! Right now there is less competition for those people. This time of year alot of people will look at a home business but may not get started just yet. This is of course due to the many distractions going on right now with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. However, these same people are still looking to work from home and if they don't get started right away many will come back in Jan. to get started.

The secret to having a massive 1st quarter of next year is to be working right now! It's like getting a head start on next year. It's creating a wave of momentum and then having that wave come crashing down on your the first part of next year. This is something that has been hitting me very hard lately with a strong spirit of conviction. I have always been optimistic about the future and what we individuals are capable of. However, those closest to me have often heard me over and over speak about what will be happening, where we are headed, in business and in life. I have lately been reflecting on my life and my business and have come to some sobering thoughts and those thoughts are this...

I have always had trouble with the basics. It's the basics that I have not been consistent with. Yes I have made a six figure income working from home. Yes there are a lot of people who would like to at least be able to do that. However, when asking myself what has been my greatest weakness, what has help me back the most. Honestly, it's the basics! I have alot of advanced training from First Steps to Success. Skills that can never be replaced and that can never be taken away from me.

But when I ask myself what is it that will take me to a 7 figure income or a million dollars a year. It's not, more advanced skill, or at least not yet. It's get the basics down better. I have to focus on strengthening my foundations. Focus on improving time management, focus on consistently talking to new clients, focus on consistently advertising, focus on not getting distracted while I'm working... these are all basic skills. They are also skills that I realized I have learned well enough earn $100,000 a year but now it's time to master them at the millionaire level.

What is a Blitz

A Blitz has been defined in several ways. In military terms its known as an all out massive assault on the enemy. In football it can be defined as every man rushing the opposing team. In DFI (Decide Freedom International) a Blitz is defined as:

Each of us pushing forward to be better than we have in the past. To set new personal standards in our business breaking the old standard. Doing this for two purposes the first to improve and increase financial gain in our own businesses; the second is to encourage and motivate others with our own efforts. It's understanding that each of us needs and supports all of us and that all of us needs and supports each of us.

When you have such an organized coalition where the brand new part time person is giving it all they have and being held accountable to a team that supports and loves them as well as the seasoned veteran who keeps their focus on the number one activity that brought them where they are; advertising and talking to brand new clients. Even the veterans are held to the same standard and not given some special privilege just because of past success. During a Blitz past success no longer matters it's simply about what are you going to do now.

It's the attitude of humbleness regardless of where we come from. The ability to listen to the advice we have previously learned and keeping a solid grasp of the basics. Which in turn will be duplicated by those who are brand new and are awestruck and inspired by those veterans who are the leaders they look up to. During a Blitz in DFI magic happens...

Freedom with DFI and Coastal Travel

What is Freedom?

For me at different times it means different things. Most importantly being able to make plans and decisions to do things without asking a boss. Being able to take my business anywhere. Knowing I can take an extended vacation and still earn a living. Having the income to not have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck. That's freedom!

Recently DFI just launched a new marketing and business management system for members of Coastal Travel. This new system has simply increased my freedom. I know longer have to work using my script books or separate day planner. They have allowed me to simply take my laptop and now I have all I need to build my Coastal Travel business from anyway.

I recently did this for the first time this past week. My girlfriend was working out of town. She was staying in a Homewood Suites Hotel (which similar to an Embassy Suites where ever room is a suite), so I decided to go up there and spend 2 or 3 nights with her. She was able to go to work as usual and all I had to do was work from my laptop and my cellphone in the hotel suite. You have to understand up until DFI launched this new system for us. I would have had to take my laptop, a 3 ring binder that kept me organized, day planner, and two script books. I felt so free being able to work exclusively from the laptop!

Wow, this past weekend was obviously the 4th of July. As my last post stated we went up to the lake and rented a boat. It was an amazing time! The Blue Angels were up there and they actually had an air show over the water and that night we watched fireworks which they shot off from a barge on the lake. It was just a great day overall, very relaxing.

This weekend we are headed to Pittsburgh PA. That promises to be a great time. First up we have our DFI event on Friday. I am very excited about this event. This will be our best company event yet. We will have such topics covered like, Discovering your Success, Prospecting Efficiently, plus plenty of awards and recognition. We get to see all of our team members in DFI, it's really like meeting up with family. This event could easily be renamed the DFI family reunion.

On Saturday and Sunday we have First Steps to Success with Dani Johnson. There is not a better training seminar on the planet. Dani is like the Bruce Lee of the business world! No joke, if you were into martial arts in Bruce Lee's time you would have felt honored to have had the privilege to be coached by him regardless of the cost. Dani Johnson, is the same way! It is an absolute privilege and honor to be coached by Dani in business. There is no one else that has her track record of personal success and then going on to teach that success to others.

Also this week Home Business Connection magazine also known as HBC featured me in one of their articles. I am on page 60 of this month's magazine. This is an honor to be written about in that magazine. When I was new to this industry 4 years ago, I found out about HBC and always hoped one day I would be featured in there. Now it's happened. I just hope my story helps to inspire someone to step out and start to improve their lifestyle with DFI. Coastal Travel and DFI, has truly transformed my life forever. Coastal Travel, July 4th weekend, and FREEDOM

This weekend we have exciting plans. We have rented a boat and we are headed out to the lake. I am not exactly sure how big this boat is but it should comfortably fit 8 adults. Tonight the festivities start with a bonfire and a cook out in the backyard. Tomorrow morning we head out for the lake. We will spend the night up at Traverse City and have the boat the next day as well. On July 4th they actually shoot off fireworks from a barge on the lake and we will be able to pull our boat pretty close to the entire display. We did this last year as well. There is not too many places better to watch a fourth of July fireworks display in Michigan.

The best part about all of this is if I was still working at the hospital as a Registered Nurse. I would have to ask for time off and there is a good chance I might not get it. Then I would have to switch with someone so I would be on the phone begging people to switch my shifts for their shifts which would also mean next week I would be working a crazy scheduled just to make up for the days that someone switched with me. I would have been thrilled to work a hectic schedule next week just to be able to have Friday through Sunday off this weekend.

Working from home changes all of that! Yes I am my own boss, I create my own hours. I make a great income but besides that I really do have true FREEDOM. Four years ago before getting started with Coastal Travel I would have never known this was possible.

Succeeding is Simple

Succeeding is simple. I can tell you that after reaching a level of success myself. I currently work full time from home about 20 to 25 hours a week. I love what I do and feel like I am probably one of the luckiest guys around. However, I didn't always feel this way. It wasn't until I started working for myself and having success did I begin to realize how lucky I am.

One day I decided to take a afternoon walk in the middle of the day, it was beautiful out. While on my walk I started think about all the freedom I get to enjoy working form home. Then wondered why more people didn't work for themselves. Then I started thinking about all the statistics that show how many people fail at things like starting their own business. Maybe it was the fear of failing that kept most people from trying, I didn't know. I started to go back and focus on what helped me to succeed. I wasn't an extraordinary person, I made very average grades in school, I even failed out of college at one point, but some how I eventually did have success.

How did I succeed? The single biggest reason for my success was my education. I learned how to have success working from home. I don't necessarily mean formal education like college but rather an education that came from a strong desire to improve my lifestyle and to eventually have the freedom that allowed me to take walks in the middle of the day not worrying about what a boss might say. For me that education came from Dani Johnson and her training seminars First Steps to Success. Now there is even more training with our organization Decide Freedom International (DFI). Being able to have some place that I could consistently tune into, some place that whenever I had a question I could always get it answered. That was literally how I ended up having success and how I continue to grow my success. I know if something new pops up in my business I can hop on an Open Forum call and the host on that call will be able to help me get my question answered. Being humble, even though I have had success and have a team of people that I am working with, and knowing that I still have more to learn. This is the reason why I continue to learn from Dani Johnson and will likely continue to learn from her for the rest of her career and mine.

The moral of the story is simple if you want to succeed from home find someone who has done it and follow their every step. Also find out where they learn from, just like I tell my team that I learned from Dani Johnson and DFI. I tell them to plug into the same systems that I used to get educated on this business. If a college flunky can succeed at this and earn over $190,000 working part time in his first two years then I promise, so can you.

Last week was great. Went to a graduation party this week and it was a tremendous about of fun as well pleny of food, pleny of friends, and amazing weather. Overall it was just a great weekend.

Great time at the ball game and update on the week

As you read in my last post we went to the Detroit Tigers baseball game. We had a great time. I smoke a new cigar that I have never had it was called a La Fontana. It was O.K. nothing special to write home about. We watched part of the game from the Tiger Den, which is a restaurant at the stadium. Talk about just a good time. I plan to go back to another game, however I prefer to watch the game from the restaurant. You can get second seating which is at game time. You can make reservations at the window and you have a great view of the game. The restaurant is at the same level as the private boxes except on the other side of the field. During the game you can step down to the cigar bar which is inside of the restaurant and have a smoke. All just part of living the good life.

The week looks to be very productive. I have travel seminar scheduled for this coming week. We are also in our second week of momentum. It's all about consistent massive action throughout the month of June. I will keep you posted as the week goes by.

Cigars and Baseball

Today we are headed out to a Detroit Tigers baseball game. Now I am personally not a big sports fan. For me it's more about the social aspect of our plans. For example I am going with 2 of my great friends here in Michigan, Tim Socier, and Timmy Nye. Tim, is now only my friend but he is also an inspirational business owner of "Timothy's Fine Tobaccos".

We got 4 free tickets to the Camacho Lounge at the Tiger's stadium so we are going to go relax in their posh lounge, enjoy good cigars, eat food, and just spend a great day together. I have been looking forward to this all week! I will definitely have to keep you posted on the updates and how much fun we have!

Wow... where to begin.

Life has been good, busy, and fun all at the same time. Let's start with last night. Last night, we went out with some friends to a Brazilian Barbecue resteraunt. It was awesome! I would highly recommend it to anyone. The way it works is you go in and pay one price. On your table you have a cardboard circle one side is green and one side is red. When you want to eat you turn the green side up and all the waiters come up to your table to offer you one of 14 different types of meet. They then proceed to slice the meet directly from the spit that it was cooked on in to yoru plate. It is a delectable experience. Leg of Lamb, Filet Mignon, Top Sirlon, Chicken, Pork Loin, Lamb Chops, and several others when offered you accept what you want and turn down what you don't want. They also had a really great salad bar... but come on... who is wasting time with the salad bar?

After dinner, Shane and I went back to their house and the women went to our house because the girls had plans today and we had different plans today. On the way home we bought some Romeo and Julieta Reserva Reals, which is a great mild cigar. We sat on their balcony and solved the world's problems while having some great cigars. A good time was had by all.

In other news, business has been great. I was at a First Steps to Success event with Dani Johnson in Chicago and she said, "Just go make a mess". She was referring to fear, and not being afraid of trying anything new. So my friend Melissa Hecht, said Jackie let's go make a mess. We started doing Coastal Travel vacation seminars. This is a brand new way of marketing that I have never done in the past. However, I love it! Seminars are pretty easy and alot of fun, who doesn't want to travel or learn how to travel for less money. We did two and it looks like we have a Platinum sale coming in this week! We have another travel seminar scheduled for this Tuesday in Frakenmuth Michigan I will let you know how that goes.

Also over the past month I have been doing alot more studying on investing and the Forex market. The Forex market is complicated but the easiest way to explain it is by copying and pasting the explanation from Investopedia:

The forex market is a highly leveraged market, in layman's terms this means you can make and lose a lot of money in a relatively short amount of time. This is a market that I have researched quite a bit over the past two years looking for areas to invest the money I am making with Coastal Travel. Where is DFI going?

Our business coach Dani Johnson, often teaches that you have to live by design not by default. Living my design means you have to know where you are headed and you have to have a plan to get there. This weekend I did a conference call and I laid out a plan of where we are headed with DFI. I can't give you all of the details, to be quite honest, they are top secret.

Let me just give you the long term vision. DFI, is made up of a group of people who are absolute movers and shakers. We have team members who share the vision of "deciding to be FREE". We are home based business owners who are looking to achieve something greater than ourselves. As a whole we have an unmatched passion for what we do and where we are headed. In the next 3 to 5 years we will have our first Millionaires in DFI. I don't mean individuals who have made a million dollars we already have those. I am talking about people who started from very humble beginnings but will create a net worth for themselves and their families of over $1,000,000 dollars. In the same 3 to 5 years 25% of our entire organization will become totally debt free including mortgage.

We will have a team of people who not only have been able to reach financial freedom, physical freedom, and spiritual freedom in their own lives. But they will be passionate about helping others all across the world achieve those same freedoms. We will as an organization work to impact all parts of the industrial planet. We will work to impact the none industrial and third world regions though our donations, and our own volunteer efforts.

We will create life long friendships within our own organization that can only be shared by individuals who share our goals and our vision. We will become a group of entrepreneurs who are truly living lives of freedom. Being able to be free from financial stress not only because you operate a successful home business but because you have learned to manage and invest your money. Now you are living the life of travel, being able to take vacations with friends and family at a moments notice. You are now in a position where if you hear of someone in need you can quickly take care of their financial needs if you so choose. You will individually impact your neighborhood and know that as a group our entire organization is impacting the world. You will know that you are a part of a movement that is much much bigger than yourself.

Maybe you have always wanted to travel to third world countries and volunteer. Now you can do that and you know because of your business with DFI and the training provided by Dani Johnson, you now are able to have the freedom to do that whenever you are called. Maybe you simply grew up like I did with very humble beginnings. You will now be able to have the house you have dreamed about. It could be a huge luxurious mansion with your exotic sports car or luxury car in the garage. You are able to take vacations and cruises but you no longer book trips with Carnival or Royal Caribbean; you are now able to use your own yacht that you have been able to purchase and have custom built due to your success as a home based entrepreneur.

You will then be internationally recognized as part of a greater movement. A movement that crosses business, religious, and political boundaries. Your influence as a speaker and a teacher whether from a stage, book, or just in your daily life will have credibility because of your track record and your part in helping others become free.

In closing I would say this... go to work, remain coachable, and teachable. Keep this vision in front of you always and be confident in where we are all headed together.

It's amazing what an ambulance can remind you of...

I just back from Applebee's, my girlfriend Carmen, called me this evening and asked if I was available to go out to eat. She wanted to take me out to eat. (That was sweet of her wasn't it) Of course working for myself, I was able to finish up early and enjoy a nice dinner with Carmen. I drove separately and met her at the resteraunt so on the way home we of course were driving separately. In the distance I heard sirens, then up ahead I saw the read flashing lights. It was an ambulance. I was immediately taken back to the most memorable moment in my life of seeing an ambulance.

We were in my Nannie and Papa's car, my twin brother Stacy O'Quinn and I, it was dark out and we were backing up past the parked ambulance. It was sometime after 3am and it was our driveway we were backing out of. Earlier that morning (closer to 3 am) we had been awaken by our mama who quickly clicked on the bedroom light that we shared saying "Get up boys, your daddy is sick".

Daddy, had never really been sick. The night before we had attended church, afterwards we had went home. The evening had been uneventful by all accounts, it ended with us kissing mama and daddy goodnight. And now mama was waking us up. We were only 9 years old and we had no idea what time it was, thinking it was closer to the time we would normally wake up we were moving at our normal groggy pace. In a moment mom came back down the hall and said, "Boys, you have got to hurry up".

In the next minute we overheard her say this on the telephone with a seriousness we were not use to, "Mama, it's me. Mama, call Johnnie (my uncle who was a first responder and volunteer firefighter) it's Edgar, (my dad) I think he's having a heart attack". Now my brother and I, heard that and we knew it was pretty serious we knew our Nannie and Papa had friends that had died from heart attacks. We quickly finished putting on our pants and T shirts, mama came to our room as we were finishing. Standing at the door, she called us out. I can still remember she was standing between us and the hallway that opened up directly to their bedroom. She hurried us into the opposite room which was the living. She sat us on a chair, and told us that we needed to pray. She reminded us that just weeks before we had learned the Lord's Prayer at church and in unison we started, "Our father which art in heaven; hollow be thy name...'

This continued several times through with mama moving about doing what amounted to busy tasks, she was almost robotic like. In a few minutes the door opened, it was my Uncle Johnnie and Aunt Brenda. My cousin, Tabitha who was probably about 14 yrs old was with them. Uncle Johnnie and Aunt Brenda, went past us with their supply bags in their hand. Tabitha, came over to Stacy and I on the chair, mama followed them down the hall to the bedroom where daddy was. Within a few moments we heard Uncle Johnnie say something over his radio, my brother stood up from the chair we were sitting on and ran to the couch, which gave him a clear visible view down the hall to where daddy was laying in his bed. Tabitha, quickly ran after him and called his name, "Stacy, come back here". I ran behind her as she pulled Stacy back to our original chair. I glanced down the hall before following Stacy and Tabitha; I have since had that picture burned in my memory. It was a picture of my daddy laying on the bed, he looked very peaceful as if he was sleeping. He was on his back, and his hands were on his chest with his fingers interlaced.

We were quickly back on the chair waiting for what was to happen next. In a matter of minutes my Nannie and Papa came in the front door. They went back and ended up talking to mama and then mama came and proceeded to ask us to leave with them to go to their house. I remember telling mama, "We want to go with daddy. We want to go to the hospital with daddy".

She encouraged us to go with Nanny and Papa saying we had to get some sleep. We eventually resigned and went with them. Hence, my memory as we left the driveway passing the ambulance that arrived shortly after Nannie and Papa. We went to Nannie and Papa's house and went to sleep in Papa's bed. We woke up as it was getting light outside. Laying in Papa's bed I realized we were not going to school. In a few minutes we heard mama come in. There was some conversation between her and her parents but I don't remember being able to understand what was being said.

Mama called to us to come in the living room. We got up and went in there and found her sitting in my Nannie's recliner. We asked if daddy was OK and when he was going to be better. Mama, asked us to sit in front of her. We sat on the floor and she leaned forward and proceeded to say, "Your daddy is in heaven". It was not that simple but that was the jist of it. My life has forever been changed. It continues to be changed to this day. A picture of the greatest man I have ever known hangs in my home office. I am forever reminded that we are never promised a tomorrow.

**Note -- My daddy's autopsy was inconclusive. To this day there is no known cause of his death. I reread it myself after I become a nurse. It was not a heart attack as my mom had originally thought that morning.

Tonight as that ambulance passed me on the way home, this entire memory ran through my mind in a split second. As it went by, I said the same prayer I have said to my self every time I have seen a ambulance with sirens blaring for the past 19 years. "God please let them, get their in time".

I have spent this time writing this entry to remind you of the same thing I was reminded of tonight. We are not promised a tomorrow, make the most of today. Are you where you want to be in life? Are you taking steps now to get to where you want to be in your life?

What kind of CEO would you be?

So Sunday after my Easter festivities, I decided to hop online and partake in one of my favorite past times, online poker. Ok, so this blog isn't really about me playing poker. It's about what I started thinking about between hands.

What Kind of CEO You Be?

Being in business I often times try to imagine what would I be like as a CEO of a large public Corporation. Have you ever thought about this? If not, then I want you to imagine you where given total freedom to head up any corporation you wanted. No worries, you are not expected to know everything. Your first year you will have several knowledgeable members of the Board of Directors mentoring you until you get the hang of calling the shots. What I really want you to think about is your work ethic, your life, and even you extravagant finances. What would your life and even your daily routine look like if you were "The CEO".

Would you wake up early each morning watch the news and catch coffee before your day started. Would you be at work promptly? Would you be consistent with your work? Would you be eager to learn, and would you be excited about the company you had chosen to head up?

What would be your motivation in work each day? Are you saving up for some sort of exotic vacation like the Caribbean or maybe the Mediterranean? Are you just looking to get established financially so you can help your family and get them out of debt? Maybe you are just focusing on getting yourself financially secured and professionally established? Or maybe you want to help greater man kind through your corporation and with your personal finances. Maybe you are the type of person that really wants to do your part to impact the world, helping the poor and those less fortunate.

Do you realize that you are a CEO now? That's right we are currently the CEO's of our own life. Making decisions and choices that impact our net worth just like we would be making decisions and choices that impact our company's bottom line. How much profit do you make each month? Are you as excited about your own life and where you are taking it, as you would be if you had the dream job of running the company of your choice? Working towards your life's goals start by what you are doing right now. What actions are you take on a day to day basis? Are you excited about your life and where you are headed? If not, that is the issue holding you back.

Make a decision to day to be the CEO you would want to be and who knows you may become that CEO one day!

What separates 2 precenters from 98 precenters?

This is the lesson that I was referring to several blog posts ago. I was recently taught that there is only one factor that objectively determines whether someone is a two precenter or not. This was such an incredible eye opener for me and a butt kicker if you know what I mean. So are you ready? The only way to know objectively if someone is a part of the 2 precenter category is simply this.

Two precenters consistently set goals and for the most part achieve the goals they are setting!

When I first heard this, it made perfect sense to me. When someone is setting goals and achieving them then it is impossible for them to not be achieving success. Could you imagine someone setting a lifetime of goals and hitting most of them? Just imagine the life they would lead, the family the would have, the success they would have in business, etc. It just makes sense. Notice, the goals don't have to be incredibly ambitious or large. It's just a matter of setting goals hitting them and setting new goals over and over again. It's like a magic formula for success almost.

The butt kicking part came when I went back and realized that I have almost consistently hit goals but have not achieved them. To be honest, I have to say this is because I end up have very ambitious goals. I have to rethink my goals for the year and the month and let you know what they are. I am going to focus on hitting my goals much more often.

How to be part of the 2% of businesses that succeed

This is a continuation of this post. 98% of the population is dead or deadbroke by the age of 65. Only 2% are financially free. In that last post I talked about how doing the exact opposite of what 98% of people do will allow you to be unusually successful. I mainly focused on the heard mentality that is looking for the stable secure job. However, many people know that 98% to 95% of business fail during their first 5 years. So if you look at my last post you would think that everyone starting businesses must belong in the 2% category. Nothing could be farther from the truth. You see a 2 precenter has nothing to do with what you do and everything to do with how you think.

For example, a person starting a business thinking like a 98 precenter may say something like this. "Let me get started and spend as little as possible to just try it out. I don't want to risk too much" I assure you if you are "trying" anything you will fail. Comments like that already show that you don't expect to succeed.

Many people get started in our business with that same sort of a mindset. Dani Johnson, calls it a lottery mentality and that is exactly what it is. "Let me spend alittle and just see if it will take off". People start working from home and think because they bought into some business that they are going to have instant overnight success. It just doesn't work that way. Here is another one, they hear about some training, seminars, or even college courses they may help them learn how to succeed in their chosen business and they say this, "When I make money I am going to get that training or take those courses". Another great example of why people with the heard mentality of the 98 precenter fails in business. Don't they realize that sounds alot like the guy that says, "I am going to start doing surgery and when I get paid, I am going to go to school and learn to do it". According to Dunn and Bradstreet, "98% of business fail due to a lack of knowledge and skill on the part of the business owner" meaning you have to get the knowledge and skill before you start making money with your business. What makes us think that we were born knowing how to succeed in business?

If you want to be a 2 precenter, you have to do the exact opposite of the 98% that are failing.

1) Make a decision to succeed in business.

2) Find a proven business model, this is any business that other people have had a track record of succeeding with. It can be any business that has a complete business model you can follow. This model should include how to get your products and services at wholesale, how to get complete comprehensive training on each stage of your business, how to cost effectively generate new clients or customers, and how to systematically grow your business. These models can be found in any business a mom and pop business, franchise, or even a home based business.

3) Follow that proven model to a "T" and do not deviate from it until you have had success to the level that it has been proven.

4) Find a mentor and follow everything they do. For me this is Dani Johnson.

So just 10 years ago people in Detroit MI, were looking for jobs with large stable companies. Companies with pensions, 401Ks, good wages, and high salaries. Today one of these companies is making headline news >> http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080212/ap_on_bi_ge/earns_gm.

About that same time a 2%er was starting a business and his family told him he was taking on too much risk. Maybe they told him to go get a real job with some job secruity. Who knows maybe his first business even failed. Either way I am willing to bet he is doing much better off today then current GM employees.

I had to post this, after my post yesterday. When I checked my email, I saw the headline on yahoo news and I thought, "Wow". What a perfect example.

It's been a good day working from home

OK, so I still haven't told you the lesson I learned this past week. I mentioned this first about two posts before this one. The reason, I haven't told you is because once I got started writing the post before this one I realized I had to to catch you up to what I have learned so far; so when I share this lesson with you, it will make sense to you. I am still going to share this but not in this post. I will probably wright one more post explaining more about 98% and 2% before telling you what I learned this past weekend.

Right now, I just wanted to update you on my day today. I made 87 dials, talked to 5 clients, and one went to a live call with me. I was below a 10% connect ratio, this is most likely due to the fact that I talked to some older leads from last week. Out of 11 new leads today, I was able to get in touch with 4 of them. That was pretty good. I only worked about 5 hours today also.

Why is 98% of the population dead or deadbroke?

Our coach, Dani Johnson teaches this concept. However, this is a perfect example of how you can hear something over and over again but still not completely get it. Learning is without question a process and this just proves that point over and over again. So Dani Johnson, teaches that

"98% of the population is dead or deadbroke by the age of 65, only 2% are financially free"

She also goes on to say if you want to be unusually successful then simply find out what 98% of the population does and do the exact opposite. For example, look for "job security". 98% of the population does this, but job security is a good way to end up looking for a pension that is likely not to be their when you are ready to retire, or to depend on a social security system that is failing fast. No one ever becomes financially free working for someone else.

Here is another one, don't try to start a business that's risky! 98% of the population is risk adverse and choose to settle for a job because they don't want to risk anything. First of all, this is a crazy statement to begin with. If business is so risky, what are you working for? Chances are you are working for a business! If you are not working for a business then you are working for the government and with cutbacks and the growing deficit that is definitely a risky job. The problem with corperate jobs is you are still taking the risk in fact you are taking more risk then your employer. You don't control anything about your job or it's future. If you the business/company you are working for starts to go under your employer will be the last one to leave the business and the last one to stop earning an income from it. Your employer makes decisions that are good for his business and his income not necessarily what's good for you.

Maybe you work for a large company and you are confident they are stable and growing. Therefore, you feel like you have job secruity. That makes perfect sense to me. You are at no more risk than the automobile employees or the airline employees were 10 years ago when they felt like they had job security. Currently most of those companies are now facing potential bankruptcy due changing economic conditions that no one could predict 10 years prior. Your stable company may be just fine 10 years from now but will it last 15 or 20 years from now. Who knows?

All I know is 98% of the population trade financial freedom for this idea of job secruity and job stability which really doesn't exist. O.K, this article is long enough. I will add more in my next one.

Learning... never stop learning

Last week I did not hit my goal of 400 dials for the week. I also learned one of the most important lessons I ever could have learned. I will share more about that in a moment or maybe in my next post. First up just to update you on a couple of things. My numbers in January show me that I need to make more dials first off, but my connect ratio was well below 10% of my dials. Meaning that out of every 10 dials I talked to less than 1 client. This is most likely due to one very important factor. I had some aged or older leads I was calling just to help me hit my goals. So I was making dials but was not nearly as productive with that time as I needed to be. In other words, there are some things I could have done that would have been more effective in my business. One is I could have done a better job following up with clients versus just focusing so much on dials.

I have made some new decisions moving forward in my business. I need to continue to work towards making 80 dials a day but I also need to do my best to get my contact ratio above 10%. Increasing my contact ratio is going to be my first priority. Now my plan of action is this...

I have ordered more advertising via http://www.snapresponse.com/. Primarily I am using the "Coastal Video Leads" and just adjusted my orders to include some "Real Time Christain Leads". I am spending the same amount on advertising but this will allow to me have more "Real Time" advertising running which is ALWAYS more responsive when I am calling them. This should have two consequences and I will confirm this as I track my numbers. First, I should have a much higher connect ratio because I don't plan on calling any aged data. Second, I may not be getting enough leads in to hit my 80 dials a day goal Monday through Thursday. I will just have to wait and see how this works out. I may be adjusting my annual goal to compensate for this. As my income increases, I will continue to grow my advertising budget to make sure that I have enough "Real Time" advertising to reach 80 dials a day. Who knows, I may already have enough but I don't think I do.

With my goals being adjusted, I am looking to save time but be more productive as well. See my next post to find out what I learned last week, which may simply change my life forever!

Today was a great day. I did on the job training with two team members. I made 74 dials to clients. I actually spoke with 8 different clients. I had appointents with 4 for our company conference call. I probably worked about 7 hours today but a big part of that was answering questions during our OJT calls.

Dani Johnson is on CNBC right now. I guess I missed it in the previews. Not only that, she mentioned my girlfriend "Carmen" we are both clients of Dani's. I owe a rediculous to Dani Johnson and her training. I will never be able to repay all that I have been taught nor will I ever be able to express how thankful I am for the lessons that I have learned!

At least for tonight. I am assuming Dani Johnson will be on "The Big Idea" another night, I will keep you posted. Business is good. Only 40 dials today about 4 hours because I had to host two conference calls. Also, my advertising didn't start coming in until later this afternoon. I only actually spoke to one person because most of my dials were to older leads. Cathy Auman, spoke up and gave one of her first testimonials on a lived business call tonight. Way to go Cathy! She is an amazing lady. Cathy also set up a marketing system with a client today, keep it up Cathy.

Karen Uyttenhove, also stepped and gave a testimony today! This women are well on their way to establishing their own lucrative incomes working from home. You are doing amazing Karen.

What a good day. I love Snapresponse.com, there advertising is just smoking right now. Today I made 80 dials, talked to 5 new clients, and got 2 scheduled for our business overview conference call. Both showed up as well!

I got to make 80 dials a day much more often. This business is so much more fun when you have things happening. I am on the conference line with my guests now so I will update you in a little while and tell you what happens!

Today, I had distractions with advertising and some unplanned technical issues kept me working as much as I wanted as well. I probably only put in under 3 hours of productive work today. I made about 37 dials to clients and put two new clients in the pipeline.

In other news, I found out that our trainer Dani Johnson is going to to be featured on CNBC on "The Big Idea" with Donny Deutsch. This is a big deal, I know of no other home based business trainer that has been featured on such a high profile business television shows. We at Decide Freedom International could not be more blessed to be coaching with a trainer that has such a massive track record of helping other people to succeed. I absolutely owe my success to Dani Johnson and her training seminars First Steps to Success.

Weekly update

I don't have my numbers in front of me for the week. What I can tell you with surety is that this was another week that I did not hit my weekly dials of 400 dials. So far for the year I am at 1 week goasl hit and 3 weeks goals missed. At the end of the year I have to have 40 weeks of 400 dials which means that I have to be much more focused going forward. Good news is I do have momentum building in my business and I did set up a marketing system this week.

We have a Blitz coming up this week in DFI. The Blitz, is one of the best times to be working. It's all out massive action as a team. We are working together and literally impacting the world as a whole. We will see people making money for the very first time in their business. My blog posts may be shorter due to high levels of activity during the Blitz. I am expecting that I will be in the Top Ten for production during the Blitz.
